The real problem with any "Star Trek" picture is that it relies on all the material which went before. Even "The Motion Picture" assumed that its viewers knew the ins and outs of the crew. If you wander in (as I did) on a later film then you feel as if you've been left in the dark a bit. Some of the films are good. In fact, I would go so far as to say that some of them are very good (The Wrath of Khan, The Undiscovered Country and First Contact) and some of them are quite self - congratulatory and only got aired because of the two words to the left of the colon, (The Motion Picture, The Final Frontier, Generations). I am one of the very few Trekkers who quite likes "The Search for Spock", perhaps because it has some brilliant comic moments ("DON'T call me Tiny") to counterbalance the tragedy involved. Overall, this product suffers because of the prior availabiltity of the earlier box sets (As far as I know there have been five movie box sets released - including this one), but if you haven't bought the movies before, this is a good place to start, and the practice of putting two films on the casette, does save a lot of space (and money). It gets four stars because three movies are absolutlely brilliant (5 star quality), only two are real turkeys (1 star) (You'll still watch them though!) and four are quite good, or have interesting concepts (so get either 3 or 4 stars). In the interests of interstellar diplomacy I refuse to name names.

This is an absolutely excellant box set, it is beautifully presented, icludes cool pictures from the movies and is worth every penny. However it is a shame that all star trek movie box sets including this one have to be in widescreen. Very widescreen.
The aspect ratio is 2.35:1 which is very widescreen. But if you don't mind widescreen and your a trek fan you will not regret buying this.

I really love this collection, before the 9th ST-Movie there are all Trailers from the Motion Pictures. I would really recommend it IF: The first Tape in my Collection Box was not Star Trek I and II , instead i found on this tape 3 Voyager-Episodes from the 4th season.
