This is the first and probably only time I'll ever write one of these but I was incensed by the sub-literate, ultra prudish one star review bringing down the average. I now note that this same reviewer has taken it up themselves to review episodes, that, by their own addmission, they haven't even watched.

Star Stories is crude, viscous and little uneven but extremely, extremely funny. The key performances and unsubtle but hilarious, as are the plots. The targets are obvious and their treatment is often brutal, but so what? In my opinion they all deserve what they get. If you are easily offended stay well away, otherwise I cannot praise this highly enough. Incidentally, the writing is broad but superb; some of the writers have worked on Peep Show and the magnificent The Thick of It. Believe me on the writing or believe the customer who has the gall to invoke the history of great comedy writing yet manages to cram a heroic sixteen spelling and grammar errors into a very short review.

Whilst 'Star Stories' could be considered both 'immature' and trashy, that is indeed it's beauty. It's satire works on two levels since, whilst mocking the celebrities involved, it also makes fun of the tabloid media. The oversimplistic and ridiculous narration reflects the nature of the content of papers such as the sun. In this sense, it could be considered 'witty'. If you like 'This is Spinal Tap', there's a fair chance you will enjoy this.

Unlike certain comedies which have deteriorated with each new series (Little Britain being a recent example), this one just gets better. At the time of writing a third series is being broadcast and Kevin Bishop has had his own show, but if you haven't seen these yet, I can't recommend them highly enough.

Acidic, puerile and tremendously entertaining, this series has a go at everyone from Posh and Becks to Take That to Britney Spears. Each cod-reverential 'biopic' tramples on celebrity reputations and treats idiotic fame-worship with the contempt it deserves. However, those familiar with the real life-strories of those concerned will probably enjoy it even more and there is much to reward film and pop-culture buffs, from Walt Disney portrayed as Dr Strangelove to Vinnie Jones and Kelly Brook, desperate to become schoolteachers.

Remember, it was here that the REAL story of Madonna and Guy Ritchie was revealed long before the world knew. THAT'S entertainment!
