I was ecstatic to receive this as a gift. It appealed to my inner geek and we planned on mounting it on the wall proudly, despite being outside the target audience.
The first one we received arrived at our doorstep with eager anticipation and was rapidly constructed. I was initially unimpressed by the quality and surprised at how small it was. I put my complaints behind me as I finished the construction. I pressed the button to see the fruits of my labor....... nothing.... I checked the batteries in another device, tried again... nothing... 20 minutes later and still nothing. I wrote it off as a "lemon" or a dud.
I contacted amazon customer service and they sent another one. This time the excitement was palpable, I wanted to display the lightsaber on the wall and create a shrine to geekdom. The toy was opened with the with great care and the instructions followed to the painstakingly simple letter. The button was pressed... nothing... 20 more minutes of double checking, and ensuring batteries... nothing. I called it horrible luck and contacted customer care.
Amazon customer service rescued in again. The third toy showed up. Again it refuses to work. At this point I'm completely doubting my ability to assemble children's toys and wondering what I could have possibly missed. I had 3 different friends or colleagues examine it. All three items were indeed inoperable from the moment they arrived at my door.
I'm very disappointed in the quality of this toy. I really wanted this, and I hope that whatever manufacturing issues are plaguing this company are resolved quickly. There isn't anything like this that I was able to find.
My recommendation is to avoid this product. I never believed reviews that mentioned crazy stories like this before and I wish it wasn't true. If you choose to purchase this product... Good luck.
