Product Description

From the International bestselling author of the Annihilation Series comes Saxon Andrew’s next installment in the Lens of Time Series, Star Rover-Running out of Time. The Union has defeated the Masters and can now confront the Grillen, who have invaded more than a million planets in M87 and are threatening to invade the Union. While the Union was fighting for survival against the black monsters in a distant galaxy, the Grillen have begun building warships that are invincible. They are immune to the Rover’s beams and the Union’s force fields are no barrier to their destructive power. No one knows where the Grillen suddenly acquired this new and deadly technology but an answer must be found quickly before the full production of these Grey Ships leads to the Union Fleets being overwhelmed.

Time is running out and the future doesn’t look good. The only chance of success is going to be left in the ten arms of a former Master and there is huge doubt he can be trusted. The action becomes fast and furious when the source of the Grillen Technology enters the war. This is a page turner that will keep you up to the thrilling conclusion.

Excerpt from Star Rover-Running out of Time
Katherine stared at her monitor and watched as the forty dark grey ships flashed in on the squadron of Rovers and opened fire. The hundred Rovers scattered but twenty six of them exploded in huge red explosions. The survivors turned on their attackers and started firing on them but their beams were shrugged off by the Grey Ships. “Where did the Grillen acquire those ships?”

Brad shook his head, “They lifted off the planet the Grillen invaded six months ago. The squadron of Rovers was sent there to hit their ship building facilities on the planet’s surface.”

“Those ships are light years ahead of their other ships.”

“Yes Sir, they are. We’ve started taking a close look at the planets invaded in the Red Zone in M87 and we’ve discovered they were chosen for a reason.”

“What is that?”

“It appears all of them have an abundance of an ore that is used to build those ships. They’re starting to build those grey ships in huge numbers and it appears we can’t match them with our current technology.”

“How would they know about that ore?”

“We don’t know, Admiral. However, if we don’t slow them down, we’re in big trouble.”
Katherine stared at the display as the other Rovers were killed. Only ten ships managed to escape. “Get Dat Arvolo here now!” Katherine stared at a still of a small Grey Ship that spelled doom for the civilized planets in the Milky Way. If an answer to them wasn’t found quickly…Katherine shook her head. Where did they learn how to build that ship?

A good read as usual. My only criticism of this particular story I felt, is that a good portion was devoted too much tactical information, and how it was going to be done.

Long story, held together well. Just a bit repetitive in places. Too much shaking heads, otherwise a good read. Should have started at book 1

I have really enjoyed this series, although it is the first series that has so much falling in love and marriage, yet it does not distract from the battles. I will be looking into other writings by Saxon Andrews.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stuck in the same (now old) formula 31 Oct 2013

As can be expected from Saxon Andrew this is very much a Young Adult book. The science is more fantasy than science. It is largely simplistic, unexplained and the huge leaps and advancements always arrive in the nick of time. There are lots of action, the heroes are heroes and bad guys are bad guys until the end or until they get converted to the “right way” which usually happens in a blink of an eye. In short the story is somewhat naive and childish.

In most of the books from this author I have overlooked this since I liked the boyish adventures and generally positive the-good-guys-always-wins-in-the-end style of these books. However, I have to say that, reading this book did not give me as much enjoyment as the previous ones. It was still fun to read but…

When I first started to read the Lens of Time series I was happy that it felt like a new and fresh story from Saxon Andrew. However, this one really felt like it was simply back to the same old formula that we have seen since the later parts of the Annihilation series and quite a few of his book series. Saxon Andrew have written 27 books now and I think he has really stretched this formula to its limits. Every so often he comes out with something that feels new and fresh, like The Pyramid Builders and The Lost Prince but sooner or later he seems to dig himself down in the same formula. That is: Overwhelming foe threatens the good guys with annihilation and good guys invent thing stopping them. Doing so billions of ships gets blown up as well as planets and even galaxies. Ships never really maneuver in real space but just jump around everywhere. Etc…

As I said, I can live with the childishness and lack of science in these books because Saxon Andrew writes these books in a way that I really like and sometimes I just like to read these kind of books but he really should look at finding a different formula. This book really felt like it could have been a book in any of his Star Realm related series except that there are no psychics in this one.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read !! 19 July 2014

Great job !! Can't wait for the next book in the series. This book, is written well and exciting and seamlessly takes off from the first book with minimum "back play" There is just enough familiarity to remember the cast from book one with out all the wasted repeated info for those jumping in cold. Authors are getting smarter these days. If they label a series 1 2 3 4 5 etc, then they can assume we are hooked after book one. No need to repeat the story line. The quicker the sequel comes out, the more likely readers will remember what they need to know. I read upwards of 7 different series at a time and have just a little hesitation as I start a sequel.

Lots of battles, great characters and interesting science. I enjoyed Mr. Andrews methods of presenting scientific basis for features which could be explained but not trying to explain those features which are really beyond our comprehension now.
