Product Description

CD Description

In This Moment continue to carve out their own unique chapter in the hard rock genre. This group is collectively defined by their undying belief in themselves and this confidence and strength is conveyed perfectly through their new material. A Star-Crossed Wasteland was produced once again with acclaimed producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Five Finger Death Punch).

I bought this album Christmas 2010, and have simply not been tired of playing it. The driver and energy of In This Moment is only matched by their ability to catch you off your guard with the subtle and gentleness (yep you can get that in Metal) of their more reflective songs.
First let's hear it for the drive and power of the good old no-nonsense of tracks like `Just Drive', is it just my wishful thinking or does my old grey hair blow if I stand too close to the speakers. Indeed they have a singer with a rich voice that she can turn to rage and scream, but only because there is a thundering good band behind her providing her with a wall of sound to stand on top of and let the world hear that roar, which incidentally is coherent, you can make out the words.
We've got a swift trip into the land of Goth with `The Promise', but with an earthy metal flavour so that makes it parody proof and so is a very emotional piece of work.
And there are those surprising lighter tracks, the title track and `World in Flames', I do admire a band that's confident enough to move away from one safe style.
Although the band said they were aiming for a darker album I have to say my favourites `The Road' and `Iron Army' are remarkably up-beat and positive in their outlook, `The Road' I play when I want my feet to tap and my spirits to rise and `Iron Army' is ideal to play when tackling for those tasks you've been putting off, although you'd be advised not to play too loud or belt out the chorus when children are around, otherwise loud defiant in your face Metal at its best (what a roar half way through!)
Incidentally the story sung out in 'The Last Cowboy' is very interesting; I love the imagery of the compass cracked and North is six feet underground.
This is an album you can enjoy at so many levels.

A star crossed wasteland...what can I say other than simply stunning throughout! From heavy, fast guitars and screamed lyrics to beautiful, emotional ballads and just about every variety in between, this album will appeal to most any metal fan.Maria Brinks voice is amazing, the musicianship equals and the production is crisp.Stand out tracks for me are The Gun Show,Standing Alone, the stunning title track,A Star Crossed Wasteland and the brutally fun Blazin',however this really is one of those albums you won't skip a single track.Brilliant.Buy it,one click now,you won't be dissapointed!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Fan 11 Sep 2010
By Stumpy
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I really wanted to like this album - I really did! Their previous releases have been excellent and I bought this one without a second thought. Big mistake! Sorry . . . but this has very few redeeming qualities.
Okay - musically it's heavier than before, no problem with that. In fact the band are as tight and heavy as any true metal fan could wish for. The band's performances are top notch and the production is powerful and creates space for each member to be heared clearly. Chris Howarth in particular shines as an imaginative and creative palyer. But somehow the songs are just plain boring. Sorry but that's how I feel. Ms. Brink's vocals are (for the most part) screamed, and that's not necessarily a bad thing but this time 'round there's very little variation in the pitch or rhythm of the vocal. It's just . . .well . . .plain hard work getting to the end of the album. In This Moment are a great band with a unique sound and two cracking albums under their belt. I just wish I'd listened to this one before I bought it.
Previous reviewers have obviously enjoyed "A Star - Crossed Wasteland" and I'm pleased for them. They've obviously tuned in to the new direction / vibe on display here and that's great. Maybe you'll agree with them too (and for the sake of a great band, I hope that you do) but take my advice - do yourself a favour and check it out first. (WE7 and Spotify are free & legal).
Sorry In This Moment - I'm a disappointed fan and I eagerly await your next release.

5.0 out of 5 stars In this moment Star crossed wasteland 7 July 2011
Format:Audio CD
In this moment are one of my favourite bands. If you are already a fan then THIS IS A MUST BUY you wont regret it. Its not all vocals like The Dream (2nd album)its more of the best from both their previous albums. Its more heavy metal than Beutiful Tragedy and Marias singing is just as good on here as it is on The Dream. If your not alrady a fan than i would recremend this to Bullet for my valentime, MCR,Atreyu and even Paramore fans. Although word of warning to Paramore fans it is heavier than their stuff. But the singing is just as good as Hayleys.
