Product Description

These fabulous collections for players of all levels feature 21 must-know bluegrss songs and instrumentals, created especially for learning players by the genre's leading artists. The artist plays a basic solo that states the melody of the tune, then a more adventurous improvisation, and each solo is transcribed in detail. The CD provides the audio versions of the solos, plus multiple rhythm tracks performed at moderate tempo for easy play-along. This great series will help you build your repertoire and get your licks in shape, so you can shine in your next performance or jam session!

4.0 out of 5 stars Jam concept works well 17 Jun 2010
By Kodiak1221 - Published on Amazon.com
This book is for Intermediate pickers, the moderate tempo will be tough for a beginner. What makes this book great is the play-a-long cd, which gives you a backing band and allows you to feel the songs as they should sound. Anyone who has trouble finding people to jam with will appreciate being able to play with this cd. It will definitely improve your chops if Bluegrass is your thing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellant practice material 27 Nov 2008
By woodwacker - Published on Amazon.com
Grier's jam book is well worth the price. The tune selection is nicely varied, although the picking style is sometimes repetitious. Usually, when I buy a book like this I find maybe one tune worth learning. In this I found four. I do like Grier's picking style for the most part. He plays the tune melody but inserts jazzy emblishments that add interest and challenge to the tunes. This style is like no other I have heard as an expienced jammer on the U.S. east coast. Great for intermediate and advanced pickers. A determined beginner might handle several tunes, but most are pretty demanding. All tunes played at a medium tempo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent crosspicking material 10 July 2010
By S. M. Barden - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I've greatly enjoyed working with the arrangements in this book. Grier's arrangements are highly melodic and feature lots of tasty crosspicking. Most of the tunes in this book are interesting because they usually feature two different, complementary sections - ie, a verse and a chorus - with interesting chord movement. There are many tunes in this selection that aren't common to other bluegrass jamming books, so you'll probably find new material here even if you have everything by folks like Steve Kaufman and Brad Davis, for instance.
4.0 out of 5 stars If you need a "band" song selection, this could be it. 8 Nov 2013

Banjo, guitar and mandolin players now have another excellent source of very good material from which to hone their skills. Well done and a good bluegrass players choice.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good book 17 April 2013

This is a really fun book. I don't play bluegrass much and this kinda got me started! My friend got the mandolin version and we jammed on some of these songs for hours. Has written out music and the guitar TAB (which annoys me- but to each his own). Easy keys. Fun to sit around and play and sing these songs :-)
