We've been using this item to score painted woodchip wallpaper and, although it worked OK initially, it hasn't been substantial enough for the amount of scoring we needed to do and the wheels came off very quickly. We've since bought a more substantial version which has been better for our purposes. (Wm Zinsser - Paper Tiger)
Definitely recommend buying a scoring device as well as a steamer as it does make it easier to get the painted woodchip off .

Hi,

As the title say you are making wallpaper stripping harder for your self. The way I do it the wallpaper comes off in hole and complete sheets with no brown backing paper stuck to the wall. First get one of there scorers (don't ever get the ones with the long handle and nails sticking out)then get your self one of them gardening sprayers, they are normally 5 litres they cost about a tenner mine did from B&Q they also sell these scorers! and some wallpaper stripper liquid costs about a 5er. Score the wallpaper all over give it a good scoring, mix the wallpaper stripper liquid in the sprayer (I normally double roughly what they say it tends to work better) in warm water then pump the handle and spray the walls approx 6 to 8 inches away (And don't be shy!), You should leave the wall for approx 15 minutes then spray it again then leave for 10-15 minutes. I tend to start from the top and peel it back and it will come off under its own weight.

Recap:

1: Give it a good score (should take no more then a few minutes per wall (12x12ft room)

2: Spray the wall with the wallpaper stripper liquid (diluted) in the garden sprayer (don't be shy!) (The one with 5 litres) Leave 15mins then spray again then leave again 10-15 mins

3: Then just peels off.

4: Job Done!

P.S. Man invented the wallpaper steamer to make life HARD!

What were Stanley thinking by putting their name on this thing? I used to trust the Stanley brand but this has made me think twice. It managed to do one wall, pretty well I'd say, but only 2m by 2m before one of the scoring wheels just fell off. And no wonder when I looked at how it was held on. I read the reviews and presumed people were being too rough with it but when I saw the pathetic little plastic clips I could see why it had no chance of lasting any length of time. And after the first wheel came off it another one came loose as well. So I had to keep pushing the little scoring wheels back on and try to only drag the thing in one direction at a time. The ends of the little legs that hold the scoring wheels on actually drag along the wall, so the ends get ground down very very quickly, once the ends are knackered, there's nothing to keep them on anymore. They should be metal and solidly attached to the body, then it would be worth owning this. After one tiny little room I threw this in the bin. I think there's another company that makes these, maybe their design is more durable. otherwise there are other tools to do this job. I cannot understand why Stanley put their name on this thing. Don't they have a testing department?

So easy to use, an excellent tool for making light work of stripping wallpaper, even hard to remove woodchip! Can thoroughly recommend this product.

This is the best tool I have ever had - it even makes stripping painted woodchip easy. Just run it over the paper that you want to strip and then steam and the paper comes off like a dream. As all ideas should be, simple and easy to use!!

Very effective until the plastic mounts (which hold the spikey wheels) start to rub against the wall and wear down leaving the wheels to fall off.
