This is a lovely little 'warmer' from Stanley; if you appreciate the chunky, no-nonsense quality of the Classic range and enjoy your time in the great outdoors, you'll love this little hip flask.
Immediately apparent on handling is the different size and shape to more conventional designs. The flask is tall (160mm high x 75mm wide x 30mm deep) and has a rounded, triangular shape in cross-section, meaning it falls into the lap of the hand very comfortably. When stood upright and viewed end-on, it looks a little like the Flatiron building in New York's Times Square.
Fully lined stainless steel construction to avoid any tainting between different fills, the exterior is finished off in the traditional hammerite green finish that is characteristic of the Classic range. The stopper has a large, gently knurled top (can be opened with gloves) and screws on and off securely, forming a tight knock-proof seal. The stopper is also permanently attached to the hip flask by a large hinged plastic arm which appears strong enough to last. It is made out of a soft-ish, flexible plastic that is not likely to shatter.
I've had mine now for about eight months and after several trips it appears to be weathering well. I can envisage it becoming a regular companion on trips and developing a lovely 'patina' through time. Definitely has provoked a few 'oohs' and 'aahs' among company that appreciate a good hip flask!
Finally, for those who appreciate their single malts (or enjoy sharing it around!), this flask holds more than the average hip flask (8 fl oz), so it is suitable for multi-day trips. A minor downside is that this extra capacity means it is too large to fit comfortably in a hip pocket and weighs a bit more when full.
Summing up: highly recommended; will become one of those little personal treasures and will undoubtedly add to the atmosphere and enjoyment of many special occasions in years to come.
