Stanley Kubrick was one of the most acclaimed and controversial filmmakers of his generation, but he was also an intensely private man who rarely gave interviews and produced most of his films under a shroud of secrecy, which tended to foster a great deal of rumour and speculation about his working methods. Jan Harlan, who worked as Kubrick's assistant and executive producer on several projects directed this feature-length documentary. Great boxset with a bunch of valuable extra material but beware ! 3 out of 5 movies do not respect their original screen ratio : Eyes Wide Shut, Full Metal Jacket and Shining are presented as a 1:78 widescreen.
Maybe this "rectangularization" won't hurt large TV-set owners but remember that Kubrick shot them as 1:33... (which was respected on the "Collection Stanley Kubrick" DVDs by the same Warner Home Video)
So : 5/5 for the rich extras and the low price but 2/5 for this unrespect.
