As an active outdoorsman, I instantly liked the concept of the Stanley product. It is in appearance like an 1913 thermos, but does it have an edge over the cheap vacuum bottles from the supermarket? They are all made in China these days, so is there a difference?

I have a couple cheap vacuum bottles and I filled the Stanley and a cheap stainless one with boiling water without preheating them. Then I left them outside i 5 degrees centigrade the whole day. The Stanley was after 13 hours 52 degrees and the cheap one was 28 degrees centigrade, quite a difference.
I did the same with half filled bottles the next day and then the temperature was somewhat lower for both vacuum bottles, as expected. The Stanley was still drinkable warm at 42C and the other one had cold water at 16C.
I like it and it wears and dents well too.

I purchased this Stanley flask to replace my old flask of the same name. The original flask now almost 30 years old and still working well was made in Nashville TN in the USA. The new flask is some cheap tat made in China. Looks and feels very poor quality and value next the the American made unit. Do not bother paying for the Stanley name. First time I have ever given a one star rating for anything from Amazon.

So assured by the grand claims made by Stanley my parents bought two, one as a gift for myself.

As hikers we have been greatly disappointed with the heat retention of both flasks.

Today on top of a mountain after an arduous climb I could have christened a child with the contents and that was before adding milk.

Been hankering after one of these flasks for years. Great childhood memories of my dad heading out to work with one in his work bag.

How very disappointing then to discover how absolutely useless they are!

Bought two of then at once, one for my friends birthday (likes to fish) and one for myself.

Neither flask keeps liquid hot for more than about an hour. Seriously, I'm not exaggerating. Alarm bells went off when my flask felt hot to the touch on the outside after filling. Practically no insulation. My friends does the exact same.

Went out and bought a tesco branded one for a fiver - outperforms this product by at least 12 hours.

What a joke.

Very dissapointed.

I am a truck driver and wanted a new quality flask for work that would last for ages, so thinking that the Stanley flasks were the 'bees knees' I went ahead and bought one of these one litre green flasks for around £23 from an Amazon marketplace outlet (who have been absolutely brilliant right through), just over a year ago now. Since then it has been changed three times until the fourth flask failed and the company gave me a full refund and advised me to 'bin it' to save on return postage.

The first flask had a vacuum failure, the second and third flasks had identical problems with the cleat holding the handle coming un-welded (it's not actually welded, more like tacked with a blob of bird dropping), and finally number four gave up with the good old 'tried and tested' vacuum failure once again. I truly treated these flasks with 'kid gloves'; cleaning the outside with baby wipes each day after work and keeping the flask in a nylon bag inside my work rucksack and never holding or unscrewing them by gripping the handle, they looked like new when returned.

Thinking maybe I just encountered a run of bad luck from a batch of dodgy flasks I thought about trying one from another shop, so off I went to Dunelm Mill yesterday and bought an identical green Stanley flask, this time for only £16:99 (they are going down in price - I wonder why). My wife filled the flask up with hot water & sterilizing solution this morning and left it on the side in the kitchen, about an hour or so later she told me what really I was expecting, that the casing was warm and the contents cool, and to boot the water had leaked into the vacuum area through a visible hole inside!!

Bought in January has just stopped working, bearing in mind it wasn't used for the summer months this is pretty poor, thought I was buying a quality product and what I got was unreliable rubbish from China. Wrote to stanley customer service departrment and have yet to get a reply, shows how much they value their customers, I'll not buy another.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This vacuum bottle seems to have mixed reviews. 24% of the reviews (at the time of my review) give it one star and are critical of build quality, longevity and heat retention.

At this stage having only had it a few days I can say that I found the heat retention to be excellent. The coffee I take to work remained hot all day, even though the vacuum was opened regularly as I had a refill from time to time. Build quality, based on visual inspection, seems to be very good. It certainly has a sturdy feel to it which suggests that it will endure rough treatment (not that I intend to subject it to such treatment).

As for longevity I cannot yet comment on whether it will last - but if this proves to be a problem I will update this review.

So, admittedly based upon early impressions, I am at the moment in the 5 star camp but that could change if I encounter the problems mentioned by other reviewers.
