I had one of these for a couple of years, only got to use it three times before it broke. The single pinion design seemed to be the cause of the problem. Rotating the drill handle in normal use had caused the pinion to go out of synch, causing the mechanism to to grind. Red paint had scraped off onto the mechanism causing frequent jams. This was possibly due to the build quality of the drill, which eventually went in the bin.
I was expecting more from the Stanley brand, and am now looking for a better quality doublie pinion hand drill.
