I purchased this one after my Draper one showed some signs of use. If I asked which combi square to buy I was getting the same answer - Stanley combi Square, 0-46-151. Reading the reviews here just confirmed this advice. So I bought one, fast delivery from Amazon. After receiving it I started to use it (because it's Stanley!) just to find out it's waaay out of squareness. Doing the simple two side test against the known straight edge it occured it's about 5mm off the square at the end. End it's not linear, because the ruler is not straight. Additionaly the locking nut locked permamently. So quick chat with Amazon rep and got the replacement in few days. This one was a little better, but the faces on the iron part were concave, ruler had one side straight and it was 4mm off the square. I needed the square right there, so I lapped the ruler on the guaranteed flat granite, lapped the faces on the diamond stones and in about 4 hours I had somewhat working square. After the job done I finished to file and lap it to as close to square as possible, but: 1st I did know what and how to do, 2nd - it took me total of about 8 hours to get it to the condition that should be from the factory. If I would knew that I will be fixing this square for 8 hours I could just buy one for 4.99 from the local cheap store and save some money. In fact I know sometimes the Stanley's is square out of the box, but having my experience with other Stanley products (spokeshave, try square) I just remove the Stanley brand from my shopping list. Kudos to Amazon for great customer service, though.

I bough a combination square from one of the tool outlets that are popular these days, which I found was way cheaper that this one (Less that half the price!) Sadly, without using it, I returned it and asked for my money back.
Basically, because the cheaper unit had a couple of faults.
Firstly, the spirit level wasn't level, (Tried the "Reversing" test, failed appallingly) and secondly, the square wasn't square! (Not by a long way!
This one though, satisfied all the criterea, includeing good locking, smooth adjustment clear markings and a sharp scriber!
Plus the price was very good from this supplier.
All in all a perfect buy! Then why not, it is Stanley and they still know how to make tools!

I have a number of aluminium squares, which are difficult to to keep true. This square was true right out of the box. It has a nice finish and a heavy feel. The rule is stainless steel and the measures are nicely etched. Should the square get out of square, it will be difficult to get back to square as it does not have the usual raised nuts in the head. With these, I would have handed out 5 stars!

The comb square is made of high quality heavy cast iron. The precision is very high fr woodworking, indeed I cannot measure the error in my bench. It means that it is less than 0.5mm.

A very good value for your money.

First off, I just wanted to say this is a good square, the casting is thick and it is fairly well made (made in England), it is worth buying. It didn't come without a few gripes though. Firstly, the ruler does flop about unless it's fully tightened up, to be fair to it, it does lock tight though. The second issue is the brass marking pin (scriber), is stuck in the body of the square, no amount of twisting or pulling will get it out. This doesn't bother me as I had no intention of using it, but I thought it was worth pointing out. A few other things worth mentioning is that the square (when fully extended and tightened up) is about 1mm out over the entire length of the ruler, so a minor amount. Another thing, the casting, while nice and thick is not the same as the original Rabone's this is based on. In fact it's about 1-2mm thinner. That combined with the movement of the ruler when not tightened does show how the quality of things has dipped over the years. My grandad's 50 year old Rabone suffers from none of the issues mentioned above, and that's after 50 years of use...

This is a very good quality combination square from Stanley. OK this may not be in the same league as the Starrett combination squares, but then you are not paying close to 5x the price either.

This model - the "Rabone" 0-46-151, is perfect for the majority of users and better than the cheaper Stanley model (STA246028) and miles better than the cheap copies from your typical DIY sheds. It is solid and made from cast iron and the stainless steel rule is etched with imperial/metric graduations in mm & cm and inch and 1/8" and 1/16".

The rule can also be taken out and reversed depending on your scale preference. The brass nut has to be tightened securely otherwise the rule will slip. But hopefully this will wear in after use. There is also a small level which is handy but not really necessary for this type of tool. The embedded scribe at the end is almost impossible to take out and could easily be misplaced. An accurate tool for any DIY'er or carpenter. Recommended.

Good useful addition to my collection, appears to be very accurate and easily read and operated even by one hand

PROS...
Accuracy of the 90 and 45 angles is good.
This has the cast iron body, which is far far better than the alloy/zinc found on other types.
Stainless blade has nicely relieved scale, which is easily readable.

CONS...
Some of the machined edges need a little filing to take off the sharp edges (eg, around the hole for the level)
Action is a little stiff, but I am sure it will 'wear in' nicely in time.
Scriber is a bit of a waste of time, but it is not really an issue, as i just remove it.
Brass nut is slightly too small to use easily.

SUMMARY...
I see old cast iron combi squares with rusty scales go for high prices on auction sites, and frankly, many are worn out, or lack a metric scale.

However, the Stanley 1912 combi squares represent great value for money and, after wearing in a little, will be as good as a much more expensive tool.
