2.0 out of 5 stars My first disappointing read by Sandra Brown 27 April 2001
By A Customer
This lacks Sandra's usual detailed plot. I finished the book quite quickly, but I cannot say I was gripped by the storyline, even thought it was a hostage situation. A fairly predictable conclusion, with fairly transparent characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars for a short read - it's cute 6 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
It's a cute short read. Not her best but I got it for free and it was enjoyable.

TV reporter Tiel McCoy is driving to New Mexico for a well-earned vacation when she hears the news on the radio: The teenage daughter of Fort Worth tycoon Russell Dendy has been a kidnapped. Immediately, she abandons her holiday plans to chase down what could be the scoop of a lifetime. But in a town called Rojo Flats an innocuous stop at a convenience store thrusts her directly into the dramatic story--and a dangerous drama. For inside the shop two desperate young lovers are holding a half dozen frightened hostages ... and a powder keg of a standoff is about to test Tiel's courage, journalistic objectivity, and everything she has ever believed

4.0 out of 5 stars Short, but gripping story. 8 Jan 2013
A considerbly shorter novel than usual Sandra Brown ones, but it works due to the story line.
Meant to be going on holiday, TV news reporter Tiel McCoy is caught up in a hostage situation at a gas station. The story is focused on the tale of the two hostage takers, and the people who are caught up in their personal vendetta. It is a fast paced novel, but it is still a short story, and whilst some of the story is believable being in the fast paced nature, other parts don't work so well. There are a couple of lucky coincidences that are a little contribed but overall it works well as a short story.
