I loved this little book and was utterly enchanted by the fact that Ian Lavender had written the foreword. Though, of course, some of it is slightly Dad's Armyish, most of it was entirely new to me and to The Husband (who has read swathes of military history). For example, it was from this book that I heard about Auxiliary Units for the first time. And only a week later, they were mentioned briefly in the BBC series "Wartime Farm" - and we scoffed at the way they were "recruited" because it was entirely wrong (instant experts...). Having spent much of my childhood in Norfolk, and holidays almost every year since, I am familiar with many of the locations described and found it fascinating to have this extra information about these much-loved places. So an excellent read for anyone interested in the recent history of Norfolk or of the Home Guard - it is like having your old grandfather sharing his reminiscences.

Not as informative as I would have thought it could be. A bit heavy going. Immense local interest, for the County of Norfolk.

A very good read. Informative, well written and covers all the important areas. A good one to add to your collection.
