Song For Julia is the HEART of this CD 21 Mar. 2009

Great CD. Jessie is in good voice here. However, my favorite here is a song I've loved for well over 30 years "Song For Julia". Here it sounds even better (if that's possible!) than the version on the LP. I LOVE the violin here as it follows the melody. Wow, it is SO beautiful. I could listen to this one song all day. If you like the mellow, soulful sounds JCY, check it out, I think you will be glad you did.

Heartfelt Renditions of Jessie's Classics 9 Mar. 2010
By Shell-Zee - Published on
I'll start out by saying that I've been a huge Youngbloods fan since my senior year in high school, ('67). Begining with Get Together right on through Elephant Mountain, Good & Dusty and High On A Ridge Top. When Jesse went solo with his first album Together, I was right there diggin' his takes on "Six Days On The Road", "Sweet little Sixteen" and "My Creole Belle". He continued to put out exceptional work peaking with the sensational Song For Juli, where he managed to blend folk, blues, country and cajun into a tasty gumbo that even today still sounds fresh and sincere. Light Shine his follow up record continued along that same eclectic trail and produced several noteworthy tunes including "Ridgetop" a suite in which he pays homage to his mountain top home and one of his signature tunes, the title track, "Light Shine".

Standing Room Only is a nice enough outing and gives everyone (like myself) who's never seen Jesse live an opportunity to hear some of his best compostions performed in a small acoustic venue. The only problem is Jessie's voice. Like anyone who sings in a high tenor the voice at sixty plus is not what is was at twenty plus. The high notes fail him and that honey sweet tone is greatly deminished. That aside Jessie still manages to deliver heartfelt renditions of some of his finest songs. I'll certainly take it over most of the newer singer/songwriters performing today....Need I dare say Dave Matthews, John Martyn or Kanye West.

Jesse Colin Young Live "Standing Room Only" 16 Nov. 2012

I must say, this cd was not what I had anticapted. I was looking for clear sound and not a lot of background noise... oh well, it just didni't happen. If you're looking for the Youngbloods or Jesse Colin Young on his own, then purchase the CD's singularly... I purchased Elephant Mountain and found all the sounds were as I remembered and as clear and crisp. The other one was Song for Juli, by Jesse Colin Young, alone, and it was also great. So, that's my advice to you fans.
