5.0 out of 5 stars truely inspired 14 May 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
my favourite poems from standing female nude are those with political overtones or comments on society. My favourite, Education for leisure, is a comical yet dark natured poem involving the thoughts of a reject from society over looked by everyone. Its black humour cleverly disguises the serious content of the lack of care in the community. Many of the poems in this collection use black humour to disguise otherwise taboo subjects including child abuse, racism, education, the holocaust and sexuality. ill leave with my favourite line 'the cat avoids me.the cat knows i am a genius, and has hidden itself' truely inspired!

1.0 out of 5 stars Needed the book for school... 11 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
I was forced to purchase this against my will and am ashamed to own it.

Duffy should not be allowed to call herself a poet.

5.0 out of 5 stars always surprising, always impressive 16 Feb 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Carol Ann Duffy covers a wide world from her London perch in the 1980's. Her poetry is modern, well-written, easy to click into, and gripping in its realism. Often you are the character, and always you are sucked well and truly in! This is now in a reprint, 10 years after being one of Duffy's first published collections. An entertaining and warming forary into the world of poetry! Carol Ann Duffy now lives in Manchester. Born in Glasgow she spent her early twenties writing poetry in Liverpool, moving down to London and really taking the poetry world by storm. It is well worth checking out anything with her name on it. Look also for plays by Carol Ann Duffy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carol Ann Duffy is great! 11 Feb 2010
By John A. Tiano - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am hooked on Carol Ann Duffy's poems. Like all poetry, they get better and better the more times they are read. It helps to have a glass of Sherry. Then, I sat on the couch between my two big dogs and read aloud. They seemed to enjoy the poems also.
