4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and very entertaining 23 Nov 2005
Format:DVD
Based upon the true life story of a Police Captain in the South African Police force during the peak of apartheid unrest in the late 70’s, when he becomes more and more appalled at the actions of the force (culminating with his killing an unarmed man in the Soweto riots), Stander becomes the countries most successful bank robber (and respected by the general population) in an effort to highlight that it’s not just the black man that commits the crimes. The film becomes more and more interesting as the situation gets more and more out of control, with the whole force desperately trying to catch him as he (and his gang) make the force look like idiots. This is an exciting film, very well acted (especially by the lead Thomas Jane) and directed very effectively. This deserved more than a straight to dvd release here in the UK.
A gem!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great film 30 Mar 2006
By A Customer
Format:DVD
Based on the true story of South African Police captain Andre Stander, this film is a really good account of both his crime spree in the late '70s/early '80s and also the injustices of Apartheid. Beautifully directed it looks very period and the acting, particularly Thomas Jane in the title role is brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars astonishing!!!! 16 Sep 2005
Format:DVD
Based on a true story, this movie is great!I picked up this movie and never thought it would be this good,I was so wrong. Its unbelievable in places and honestly if this film wasnt true you would think the director is having a laugh in making this film. The way in which the Stander gang went about robbing banks and their disguises, were truely on times ridiculous you had to pinch yourself and ask did this actually happen! The acting is good,Directing superb and Thomas Jane is excellent, this has got to be one of the films of the year.If you love Thomas Jane this film is for you,see it to believe it you will not be disappointed!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice and entertaining movie
Though the story might recall many others already shot,
(recent and not) all in all it's a good action movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stander by this man
With a low box office profile, this works in many ways. The bank raids are tense and thrilling and it is well cast. It combines a road, heist and social narrative film all-in-one. Read more
