By R. WOOD
Format:Paperback
I bought this book just as a reference point for my upcoming assignments I have. Just for the record I am currently a fully qualified engineer at Airbus.
The book itself is good, and the content is correct, however there are some major flaws that I believe need rectifying to make this book correct to date.
The first major problem I have found with this book, is that unless you work for, or working with an American aircraft, this book is little good. All the references, dimensions, terminology etc is American and there is no English equivilant anywhere throughout the book. For example...if you were working on an Airbus aircraft this book would be very little help to you.
The second major down point to the book is its position in the aerospace world today. The book was revised in 1999, so all the content is pretty much out of date. Materials, processes, proceedures and aircraft are all out of date. A new revision needs to be made, containing international standards, dimensions and terminology, new materials, international references and updated aircraft such as the A380 and B787.
The final major flaw with this book is the quality of the diagrams and illustrations. They are pretty poor to be honest and would never be accepted in the aerospace industry to reference from. The ink looks something that would have been written/drawn and published on an 18th centuary newspaper.
With all that above taken into account for, the book would be ideal for AMERICAN college students at a lower qualification level. With the flaws taken care of above I'm sure this book would be excellent.

Waste of money 25 Sep 2001
By B. C. Davis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have an A&P license and bought this book for my son. It is a good example of quality sacrificed to feed someone's bottom line. Illustrations and figures in this book are of such poor quality that they appear to have been reduced on a copy machine, causing important details to disappear into blotches of ink. Reference tables have been reduced to the point where they are unreadable without a magnifying glass. There is no section on welding. If this is the only reference handbook on the market, then you're stuck with it -- but I sent mine back. Don't buy it.

Standard Aircraft Handbook for Mechanics and Technicians 11 Mar 2010
By Richard L. Hall - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book is a good basic treatise that capsulizes the three rather voluminous documents put out for the FAA administrered AMT work.
