Biography

What are the ingredients for a killer metal DVD? Here is a little tutorial: First of all you need a great band, inimitable and unique in its stage presence and off-stage antics, the latter preferably being a well-dosed mixture between shocking, crazy, hilarious, and truly embarrassing moments. If you can exploit that in one big fat documentary making you believe that true rock ‘n’ ... Read more in Amazon's Turisas Store

Product Description

CD Description

Buoyed by the support of their ever-growing legion of acolytes, Turisas return to action in the rudest of health and with supreme confidence driving them forward. The triumphs of old have all been documented and used as fuel to propel the band to new creative heights, and now, as 2011 dawns, the time has come to plot a new course and to unleash a new album. Now it is time to Stand Up And Fight.

The biggest, boldest and most gloriously extravagant album of the band’s career, Stand Up And Fight erupts like the ultimate heavy metal musical, with many layers of orchestration and choral harmonies adding to these songs’ intense sense of drama and mischief. Although remaining true to the spirit of past Turisas records, the new album, which was mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth/Katatonia) at Fascination Street in Sweden, takes the Finns to a whole new level of depth and bravado, as their unmistakable sound expands before our very ears, consistently conjuring up vivid images of the Vikings’ ongoing adventures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stand up and Sing 10 Mar 2012
Format:Audio CD
I love this album, it's full of strong anthems and feels great to sing to.

There are some great arrangements and well made music.

It's different to previous albums, I think The Varangian Way was epic with some very strong music, strong themes and it was all produced well too. Stand Up and Fight loses a bit of the fighting spirit of the Vikings, and possibly a bit cheesy -especially the title track. But there are some excellent tracks in this album, and i would recommend if you like Turisas I don't think you'll be disappointed with this offering.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new sound for Turisas 5 May 2011
By Leopard
Format:Audio CD
Turisas have moved on with their music, using more orchestral sounds than before, and while I miss the raw instrumentals of their earlier albums, this one is not bad. More anthem style, with epic songs all the way through, and perhaps just a little less 'metal' than usual!! Took me a little getting used to, but starting to love it now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sit Down and Slob... 4 April 2013

Do you like standing up?
Do you like Fighting?
Do you like Pirates?
Do you like Vikings?
Do you like Battles?
DO you like METAL?
DO you paint your face?
Do you dress in Roadkill Fox pelts?

If you do then this is for you!
You pretty much know what you're going to get with Turisas and what you get is the perfect music to wave around your cheap plastic sword or inflatable Battle Axe to. Even from the comfort of your own settee. Better still to be doing it in a melee of chain mail wearing warriors, although your inflatable Axe might not last long. Or your cheap plastic sword.

BUY OR DIE IN BATTLE!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as Battle Metal! 19 April 2012
Format:Audio CD
I have been an avid fan of Turisas since I heard them in my first year of high school back in 2007.
Their album Battle metal was a masterpiece, with no weak tracks bringing down the album.
The Varangian Way was less of a masterpiece, but was still a good album.
And then came Stand up and Fight! Just like Battle Metal, there are no weak tracks!
As someone else said Turisas have moved on with their music, moving towards a more symphonic sound.
I can say with absolutely certainty that they are moving in the right direction.

If you are a fan of symphonic metal, this is the album for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars The return of Battle Metal. 2 Mar 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having first seen Turisas live in the UK before actually hearing any of their tracks I immediately dived online and bought their first two albums, since then they've been a constant part of my life's soundtrack and when they announced Stand up and Fight it dawned on me that I hadn't been this excited for an album for a long time. I'm pleased to say that Turisas have done it again. Stand up and Fight is by far and away one of the best metal albums I've ever heard (best played at full volume), the production quality is better than the last two, the vocals are clearer and you can tell they've put a lot of effort into it. I don't feel there are any filler tracks as everyone is memorable, some more than others of course, Stand up and Fight and March of the Varangian Guard for example.
To wrap up, Turisas are not a band to be missed, and this album will not dissapoint you whether you're already a Turisas fan or not. five stars. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Masterpiece! 2 Mar 2011
By John
Format:Audio CD
Going back to the 60s Rock bands have flirted with orchestral music to varying degrees of success though none to my mind have completely married the two. The one usually takes away from the other and bands are often (eventually) embarrassed by their pretensions. Worse still though bands who employ orchestration because it has been the trend and frankly they have nothing new to say. Well good news everybody! You don't need to bother anymore because Turisas have completely nailed it! This is simply the soundtrack to the greatest film never made! How on earth they are going to capture it live god only knows. If i could give it more than 5 stars i would and some. Well worth the effort that went into it, don't you just love it when a plan comes together! John
