Book Description

15 April 2014

With no arms, no legs, and no defense, Nick Vujicic was once a bully’s target and knows what it feels like to be picked on and pushed around:  It makes your stomach hurt, gives you nightmares, and feels like there is no hope in sight. But Nick shows how you too can overcome and rise above bullying.

No Bully Can Define Who You Are

Nick has experienced bullying of all kinds for being “different.” But he’s learned that he doesn’t have to play the bully’s game–and neither do you. In Stand Strong Nick gives you strategies for developing a “bully defense system,” so you can handle bullies of all kinds by building your strength from the inside out.

Find out how to:

·         Turn being bullied into a great opportunity (yes, really!)

·         Create a safety zone within yourself

·         Establish strong values that no bully can shake

·         Deal with cyber bullies

·         Develop a spiritual foundation to stay strong against bullying

·         Monitor your emotions and control your response to them

·         Help others who are being bullied

Are you facing the unwanted attention of a bully?  You can stand up to the challenge, because you have greater power over your feelings and your life than you may think! Just ask Nick--the man with no arms or legs…and “a ridiculously good life.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Stand Strong... 15 April 2014
By NYFB - Published on
The bully defense system spelled out below is according to the writer and the publisher. What is not based according to the publisher or the writer is the dedication of the process regardless of your sex, race, religion or size. Yes regardless of your size since bullying is not physical, it is mental and in this day and age bullying is more than face to face, it is in the clouds on the Net. Stick to the process that is offered by Nick and you will get to know yourself. Handling yourself mentally means handling anyone or any situation with common sense regardless of your size or shape since that is when your senses are everywhere except with yourself.

Bullies want to abuse you. Instead of allowing that, you can use them as your personal motivators. Power up and let the bully eat your dust. In the pages that follow, Nick will help you build your antibully antibodies. This is a process that works by building strength from the inside out, from your deepest thoughts and feelings -- your heart and soul -- to the way you see the world, make decisions and take actions. You build your bully defense system from the inside out by;

1. Figuring out who you are so no bully can tell you differently or make you feel badly;
2. Taking responsibility for your own behavior and happiness so bullies have no ultimate power over you;
3. Establishing strong values that no bully can shake;
4. Creating a safety zone within yourself where you can go mentally to draw strength and comfort;
5. Building strong and supportive relationships to stand up for you against bullies;
6. Learning to monitor and manage your responses to the emotions triggered by bullying;
7. Developing a spiritual foundation to help you be at peace and be strong against bullying;
8. Taking the opportunity to learn from your bullying experience so that you can become stronger, wiser, more confident, more faith filled and more prepared to handle any challenges;
9. Creating your bully defense strategy so you are prepared to handle bullies of all kinds;
10. Mastering empathy so you are aware of the needs of others and serve them whenever possible to help them overcome bullying.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Read 15 Aug 2014
By Susan Bunts Wachtel - Published on
After hearing author Nick Vujicic on a number of radio programs I jumped at the opportunity to read his latest book Stand Strong – You Can Overcome Bullying (and Other Stuff That Keeps You Down).

Nick is both a compelling speaker and writer. In Stand Strong he shares openly about difficult people (bullies) he’s encountered, how it’s impacted his life and what he learned from those trials. It’s incredible how Nick has taken his pain and suffering and has used it to help, strengthen and encourage others. His compassion and desire to help other people who are being bullied come through each page. More than survive, Nick wants people to comes through victorious and allow God to use them to come alongside and help others.

Nick’s prescriptions to Stand Strong are powerful and when put into action they can be a game changer. Some of the steps include figuring out who you are so no bully can tell you different, taking responsibility for your life, monitoring and managing your emotions to successfully deal with bullies and seeing that good can even come from something as evil as bullying.

Nick’s personality, humor and compassion comes through this book. He shares openly how his faith in Jesus Christ and the love of his family helped him to overcome the bullies and be used of God to powerfully impact many people.

One thing I would have liked to have seen is Nick clearly presenting the gospel message of us being lost in our sin, the need for repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ alone. Both the person being bullied and the person who is the bully need a Savior, as do we all. Much of what he prescribed can only fully be achieved by Christ in us. Nick tells of the love of God for us and how He can empower and enable us.

I wish, as a young person, I would have had the wisdom and counsel of Nick Vujicic. Even now as an adult, I can see myself implementing some of his steps to overcome the bullies because they don’t all go away when you grow up.

I do recommend Stand Strong by Nick Vujicic, especially to teenagers and children who are encountering bullies and to parents who need to know how to come alongside their child and help them.

I would like to thank people at Blogging for Books for providing me with a free copy of Stand Strong in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a favorable review.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for students, parents, teachers & principals 21 July 2014
By Craig T. Owens - Published on
Nick Vujicic was born without arms or legs, as a result, he said he grew up being a “bully’s dream.” But Nick is an overcomer! He conquered his bullies, and in his book Stand Strong he wants to help students learn to conquer their bullies too.

Nick explains, “Your bully’s motives don’t matter. You do. Your safety and your happiness are more important to me and everyone else who loves and cares about you; so instead of focusing on why a†bully is picking on you, let’s focus on helping you feel secure and happy again. ... I will help you build your antibully antibodies.”

Using his own life as an example, Nick shares the raw emotions he felt when he was picked on by bullies. He is also transparent enough to share all the wrong ways he tried to avoid being bullied, and ultimately how he discovered the pattern for successfully navigating the bullies that come along all our paths. As Nick wraps up the book he observes, “Seriously, here is the idea I’m asking you to consider: what if you could find ways to learn and grow from being bullied? What if you took a bully’s hurtful actions and turn them into lessons learned so that you became stronger, wiser, and more confident?”

I found the steps in Nick’s Antibullying system to be steps that can be immediately applied. They are very do-able! And they will indeed make students stronger, wiser, and more confident.

This is a book I would recommend to not only school-aged students, but also parents, teachers, and school principals. If everyone could get together on the same program, the results would lead to a completely new environment in our schools.

4.0 out of 5 stars Refuse to be a victim 21 Aug 2014
By Bonnie Ferrante - Published on
Nick is a man who understands what it's like to feel helpless in the face of bullies. He was born without arms and legs. He faltered for a while, hanging with a gang of tough kids who did not share his values or interests, in order to feel safe. Eventually he realized he was not being true to himself and developed astep-by-step strategy for dealing with bullies. This enabled him to complete high school and go on to a successful life with the wife, child, and fulfilling career.

At the basis of his strategy is a strong belief in God and faith in the teachings of Jesus Christ. This religious viewpoint increases as the book goes on. Nevertheless, if you are not a Christian, you will still find useful advice.

He explains how to make yourself emotionally strong so as not to internalize the cruel comments of bullies. He discusses support systems and how to build them and the importance of at least one good friend. Cyber bullying is examined and the ways to prevent or deal with it. Nick describes how to keep yourself safe from bullies who might want to physically harm you.

Nick's positive, life affirming attitude is proof that there are ways to fight becoming a victim. In a time where bullying has gone global through the Internet, young people need help and support more than ever. Whether you are Christian or not, you will find this book a useful tool for discussion or personal reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, wish I had read it when I was a teen 5 Aug 2014
By Mark B - Published on
Nick Vujicic is one of the most inspiring an encouraging people I have run across. When I am complaining about my problems and struggles, he often comes to mind and it makes me feel guilty for complaining when he has so much more reason to, and doesn't.

This book is geared for kids who are being bullied, but it would be profitable for adult who still experience it, have experienced it, or for parents of kids who are bullied. I experienced it myself in school and it can scar you for life. Nick was much more of a target with his having no legs or arms. He tells about how he got bullied, how he dealt with it, and tells the reader how to deal with it and overcome it.

The book is well written and has a lot of great advice. I wish I could have read this book when I was in my teens and experiencing my worst bullying, but it wasn't around. So I can only post a review of the book and get the word out that it is great tool for kids who are bullied and parents of those kids. I highly recommend it, along with Nick's other books.
