This was good to see an introduction of new characters to the Yada Yada series and development of some older ones but was a little predictable.

For those who know the Yada Yada series, it's really interesting to see Avis in a new way. A look behind the person Jodie looks up to so much.

A delight to read 21 Feb. 2012
By D. Kinney - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book was a delightful treat like drinking a grande white chocolate mocha on a cold winter day. I am so glad that Thomas Nelson provided me a copy of this book to read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed reading all the Yada Yada books over the last few years.

Avis, the main character of this story, has always been poised, polished, and a little too perfect. She has been a part of the Yada Yada Prayer Group since the very beginning. To be honest, I was always intimidated by her character because she always seems to be so put together. This story reveals that no one, no matter how they look on the outside, has it all put together.

The character of Kat was new to this series. She is a young college student with fresh ideas and a deep conviction of rightness. She lacks compassion and needs to tone down her opinions. I had a hard time liking her, but maybe that is because I can relate to her.

What I loved about this book is the realism. The characters struggle with things that I struggle with. They seek God's guidance and the advice of close friends. They are trying to live out their faith in their day-to-day lives. I can totally relate.

Even though this is the first book in the SouledOut Sisters series, it is a continuation of the Yada Yada Prayer Group and Yada Yada House of Hope series. I would admit that reading the other books before reading this book is a good idea. Many characters from previous books make an appearance in this latest book and a few characters have major roles in the plotline.

Thomas Nelson has provided me a free copy of this book in exchange for my review which I freely give.

Mature Christians Need Help Too 25 Feb. 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Stand By Me is the first book in Neta Jackson's new SouledOut Sisters series. Avis Douglass first appeared in the Yada Yada Prayer Group series as the wise mentor to the group. Avis is still involved in Yada Yada, but lately, she's been out of sorts. She is worried about her daughter Rochelle and grandson Conny. Her husband Peter is restless in his job, and Avis has concerns about the security of her job as well.

And then the last straw is Kat Davies. This young grad student from Cristo University appears with a group of friends at Souled Out Church and immediately gets under Avis' skin. Making matters worse, Kat and her friends are looking to sublet an apartment for the summer in the same building as Avis and Peter.

Many people view mature Christians as having perfect lives. Avis Douglass is the perfect example of someone who is still working out her faith daily. She is a great source of wisdom and strength for others, but still has her own struggles to deal with, and her life is hardly perfect.

I was fascinated with the character of Avis Douglass when we first met her in The Yada Yada Prayer Group. Like me, she has practical advice to offer others, but sometimes has trouble following it herself. I look forward to learning more about her in the future.

Stand By Me (Great 5 Star Book) by Neta Jackson 22 Feb. 2012
By Mary Barrett - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Stand By Me was a great novel. Now one of my favorites in the Christian fiction category. It is full of strong characters, complex and like those you would see in real life. There are some great discussion topics and it is a very fast-paced read.
I found myself involved in this book from page one. Which is such a plus , not to have to wait till you get several chapters into a book to start feeling comfortable with it and enjoying it. I could relate to the characters and their lives , as it hit home for me all around.
The book wraps up the ending, but left some openings to fill in the sequel. I absolutely loved this book and the characters in it. I recommend it to anyone, especially those who are Christian women (and if you're struggling with someone who is getting under your skin and annoying you somewhat)
The book will be available on March 13, 2012 and you should go out and get it. You won't be sorry. Rating for this book from me -5 out of 5 Stars!

predictable but uplifting 2 Mar. 2012
By turnerbethany - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Sometimes the person you most need is the one least like you. Southwest mets midwest. Kathryn Davies is a bright young woman from Phoenix who is studying education at Crista University in Chicago and recently discovered the multi-cultural church SouledOut Community Church. Avis Douglass is a mother, grandmother, wife, principal, and member of SouledOut Community Church. Kat's eccentric ways first puts Avis on edge. "But in God's own mysterious ways, the two women discover they need each other in ways neither of them expected."

stand by me is a quick and easy read. It is the first book in a new series SouledOut Sisters by Neta Jackson but contains several characters from her previous series The Yada Yada House of Hope series. Neta is able to introduce each character and tell each story so that new readers are not lost and old readers are not bored. Each character comes alive with his/her very unique background. Those diverse backgrounds cause much conflict within the book. stand by me will grab your attention even with its pretty predictable twists and turns. If you are looking for a quick, fun, but uplifting read, here you go.

Disappointing 7 April 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Oh boy, what to say about Stand by Me. I was so excited to see this as a book to review for Booksneeze, because I LOVE Neta Jackson...I'm a big fan of the Yada Yada books and the House of Hope. I did not like Stand by Me.

The concept was really good...get to know some of the other characters. I just really struggled with this book. First with the characters: Kat was incredibly annoying. Her friends had no back-bone. And the Douglas's were very shallow and very hypocritical. I had hoped that by reading this book I'd like Avis a bit more...She was probably my least favorite character in the previous books...instead, I found that I really didn't like her.

The book flow was just off. There was a lot of "stuff" and at the end, I felt I was just left hanging.
