Brilliant Reissue! 27 Aug. 2014
By M. Welch - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Vinyl Verified Purchase
Great reissue of a classic jazz recording. Tjader and Getz recorded this set live at the Blackhawk in San Francisco which was captured beautifully in a feat of audio engineering. Tjader's vibraphone, mixed principally panned to the left channel sounds with resonant, bell-like quality on the LP version. Every nuance of Getz' saxophone is captured and panned right channel. The two soloists play off each other with fluidity as if they were a regular ensemble.

There is no weak point in the musical talent assembled. Getz and Tjader, virtuosos both, are overshadowed at times by the stellar performances of Vince Guaraldi (piano) and the sensational Eddie Duran (guitar) whose rhythm and lead playing both shine. The rhythm section of Billy Higgins and Scotty LaFaro are near telepathically synced.

I highly recommend the vinyl version of this reissue which will immediately entrance even the most casual fan of traditional Jazz.
