This is a new edition of the bestselling title 'Bolshevik and Stalinist Russia 1918-56' which now focuses on the period from 1924-53. It provides both a narrative and an analysis of the impact of Stalin's leadership on the USSR. It examines Stalin's rise to power following Lenin's death in 1924, the nature of his rule, the economic changes he brought about and his foreign policies. Finally, a concluding chapter focuses on what life was like in Stalinist Russia.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great detailed book for AS 1 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was recommended this book by my AS teacher, it has so much information in it and lots of handy summary charts which are excellent for revsion. The book starts with Lenin and then goes on to the power struggle for leadership. I found the book great for extra information but hard to get into when i first started the topic as in a way it gives you too much detail, which i felt you got bogged down in. The sources particularly the pictures of collectivisation are extremly powerful in the book. It also has fantastic essay questions in them and guidence by examiners on how to answer them, I found this a fantastic aspect of the book.
