My water supply can taste and smell strongly of chlorine and maybe hypochlorite at times. At worse it can smell almost like mild swimming pool water. Other times it's clear and tastes of nothing but it is quite hard.

The setting up is easy but requires a bit of patience, basically soak the filter candles for 3-4 hours then fit the tap and candles and run a full load, throw away the filtered water as there should be some ceramic sediment come out. Do a second batch and leave that overnight. Throw that water out and the next batch will be good stuff. It literally tastes like pure water. In coffee machines and making tea, the taste is much better too.

The quality of the steel is excellent, mine was reduced by 20% because of a small dent which is on the upper half which can be rotated....and can be flipped and inserted in to the lower half for transport. That's how it is shipped.

You do get a dripping sound which could drive you nuts but close the kitchen door if you have one, it'll be fine.

It's not really quick but get in to the habit of checking how much filtered water you have and top up. You can get a water level indicator but it's about fifty quid so I just lift the top half and look in to the filtered chamber.

Value: OK I've used jug filters before by Brita....They don't make much difference to the water and require regular expensive filter changes (monthly it was for me)...although Amazon's prices are very good. Brita make very little in the way of a claim about the purity of their filtered water whereas there is good info about these ceramic filters - see below.

So most companies say these filters will last 6 months for 4 people, 9 months for 2.

Well, I saw a few video's on Gravity Water Purifiers and decided that getting one was something I wanted to help improve the quality of water from the tap or gathered from a rain collection system. This system is very good and once the filters have been properly prepared and filtering the first batch of water through them the quality of the filtered water is excellent. I've just passed water out of the tap through it, but the difference is amazing. Using the water for coffee and general cooking also, you notice a real difference when using this systems filtered water. Quality construction also. The outlet stop tap can take a little bit of fiddling and some hard hand tightening to get it right so that it doesn't leak but once that's done I haven't noticed any leak at all. Two filters are certainly enough to provide me with filtered water all day, if you have 3 or more people drawing from it then you might want to add a further two filters (it holds 4) to increase the flow from the top area down to the treated area.

I ordered my British Berkefeld gravity purifier elsewhere as it was cheaper than Amazon and free delivery too. Mine included 4 of the higher spec ATC Super Sterasyl filters. You can fit all four filters which will give you a faster flow rate into the lower chamber which is suitable for larger families requiring more water more often. But I've fitted just two filters in the upper chamber and have two filters in reserve. That's more than adequate for my needs.
Set up was easy and took less than five minutes. You simply attach the small handle to the lid, fit the spigot to the lower chamber and install the filters to the upper chamber. The manufacturer also has the assembly on Youtube if you're still unsure. No fuss, no mess, no plumbing and no leaks.
You can also use the Berkey filters which includes their fluoride filters. The Berkey black filters have had some quality control issues. So do a little research on their filters should you opt to use them.
I have mine raised on a stand close to the wall on my work top rather than forward on the work top with the spigot/tap protruding over the work top edge.
All in all a very stylish purifier/filter. Not overly big, it can easily be disassembled and transported for car camping, boating or caravanning etc. And it's made in England too.

I am very excited with this purchase. I purchased it as part of reducing my acid food intake as I have just been told I have osteoporosis. It is very empowering to know that something can be done to reverse the disease, and purifying the water is one of them.
It was very easy to fit together and I have not had any drips or leaks at all. It comes with a full booklet of instructions and although they are a little confusing (aren't they always) it did literally take 5 minutes.
The initial cleaning of the cartridges is very long and tedious, but the water tastes so much better. The drum size allows me to use the water for absolutely everything - cold drinks, tea and cooking. Even my dog will drink this water!! The level of the tap means that the purifier really has to sit next to the sink so that you can hold the receptacle underneath the tap but that is fine. It means that it is right there under my nose all the time and will therefore get used.
This seems a better option to me than a water purifiying jug which does not remove half of what should be removed and it is cheaper than other options. It is also portable and can be moved from house to house.
