Product Description

His accomplishments as a producer have long been surpassed, most notably by George Martin, but for a long, long time Norrie Paramor was the producer with the Midas touch. He produced Britains very first Rock & Roll record (Tony Crombie) and racked up a huge number of number one hits by the likes of Cliff Richard, The Shadows, Eddie Calvert, Helen Shapiro and Frank Ifield, among others. Yet whilst his productions were at the forefront of British popular music, he also maintained a dual career as one of the leading easy listening bandleaders of his generation. His best known album is undoubtedly In London In Love, after which his success as a producer tended to overshadow his own recording exploits, but Staged For Stereo was a return to former glories.

Very pleasant easy listening light orchestral music by the master producer of such acts as Cliif, Shadows, etc. Obviously this is in early 60s style being a 1962 recording presumably. Plyaing time under the half hour but then at Hallmark's low price still worth having.

One of Paramor's Finest Albums 16 Mar. 2013
By Over EZ - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Dating from 1961,this recording was part of Capitol's "Staged for Stereo" series, a group of LPs meant for the North American market. This CD seems to be a phono transcript of the British version-the cover art is an exact copy-but track order differs from Capitol ST-1639.
After more than 50 years, "Staged" still makes for very pleasant listening. A striking feature is the prominence given to woodwinds and guitar as well as the string choir. Thanks to the acoustics of Abbey Road Studio 1, the stereo image is deep and resonant.
For me, the sleeper among the 12 tracks is "Janny", composed by Vernon White.(A search turned up nothing about him ; a pen name for Paramor himself?)
The sound quality of this Hallmark disc is better than I expected. The higher frequencies are filtered out in some songs, but it's difficult to tell whether that's due to the source or to digital processing. My only complaint, and the reason for just four stars, is that there are no notes (those on the original Capitol LP gave a charming track-by-track listening guide)or documentation beyond composer names. And playing time at 36 minutes might easily have accommodated another Paramor album, such as "Jet Flight".
However, since a full master tape-based restoration seems extremely unlikely, I'm happy to have this release at all!
