Book Description

8 July 2005 Transita
Teaching full-time and acquiring all the oddball kids in the new intake are only the first of Beth's challenges when Alan leaves her after 25 years of marriage. She also has to turn her untidy Cambridge house into a B&B to make ends meet and then counteract the effect of regular theatrical guests on her stage-mad teenage children. Alan doesn't even have the decency to stay out of her life. Instead he makes disapproving incursions back in with his saccharine-laden new partner. But Beth's real worry is lodger Owen Pendragon - a character actor with wicked hazel eyes, a quirky sense of humour and a tendency to walk around her home sexily damp in his bathrobe. With attitudes and lifestyles clashing, will Beth and Owen ever find common ground? All they can do is to take things 'stage by stage'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure escapism 27 Oct 2011
By Constant Reader VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a lovely, warm, funny book. I liked the heroine immediately and most of the other characters as they came on the scene. Yes its wish fulfilment for the over 40s, but we all need a bit of fun occasionally and this book delivers - I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Its also got a bit of substance and repays a second reading as - having got all the characters established in your head - you notice things that you didn't pick up on the first time round. To be honest, I just wanted to spend more time in their company and wish that Jan Jones had written more.

One tip is to read it over a weekend as I really resented having to put it down to go to work

5.0 out of 5 stars A great, funny read 21 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
The perfect book for that poorly-on-your-birthday situation, this is a lighthearted romance, full of fun and laughs. The characters are nicely observed, especially the teenagers, and the sometimes complex situations well handled. I loved the theatrical details (shades of the Blue Door Theatre Company - hooray!) and the range of characters. All told in a lovely jolly but believeable voice, and indeed a source of inspiration to those of us still just about under 40!

5.0 out of 5 stars gives you a great big grin 5 Nov 2005
By Cheryl
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really couldn't put this down. It made me laugh and left me with a warm glow and a great big grin. It is consistently entertaining and fun without requiring you to leave your brain at the door. Fantasy fulfillment for the mature woman and about time too. Read it- you won't regret it. And being a resident of a Cambridge village myself only added to my enjoyment.
