Product Description

As HR leaders know, successful staffing is about much more than just hiring qualified people. It’s about hiring the right qualified people and keeping them. To help you do that, On Staffing covers the new and innovative business initiatives managers from leading companies are using to assess the potential of people and place them in positions in which they can maximize that potential. It analyzes the practices that work, offers strategies for dealing with rapidly changing business and hiring environments, and helps HR leaders prepare for the changes and challenges to come.

From the Inside Flap

Of all the functions in an organization, staffing is among the most vital. Even in a difficult economic climate, the battle between companies for top talent rages on–and the winners of that battle will position themselves for future success. As competition increases, recruiting and keeping great people is becoming the single most reliable way to create sustainable competitive advantage.

Economic and demographic realities–from corporate cost cutting to the aging of the workforce–present serious challenges to today’s human resources professionals. On Staffing addresses those challenges by compiling concise, intelligent essays from today’s HR thought leaders. Insightful, thought provoking, and full of innovative ideas, this practical compendium offers the knowledge and expertise HR specialists need to lead their companies to the forefront of hiring practice.

The fifty short, informative articles included in On Staffing cover every aspect of the human capital cycle, from acquisition and development to management and retention. All are written by staffing specialists from leading organizations that have been recognized for their leadership in the specific areas of staffing and human capital management.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TREASURE-TROVE OF INFORMATIVE & INSIGHTFUL ESSAYS., 19 April 2005
By Gerry Stern "Stern's Management Review Online" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: On Staffing: Advice and Perspectives from HR Leaders (Hardcover)
This is an array of fifty informative contributions by leading experts and senior executives. It provides up-to-date coverage of approaches, methods, trends and practices. This collection of essays touches on every aspect of the human capital cycle including: labor markets; recruiting; employer branding; networking; search firms; staffing approaches; building human capital (work force); development; and retention. An excellent resource.

3.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive subjects covered; however, nothing new or anything that a staffing professional hasn't practiced or heard before., 11 Aug 2009
By GoFish101 - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: On Staffing: Advice and Perspectives from HR Leaders (Hardcover)
Book is informative; however, from my perspective, most of the materials contains information that most staffing leaders already know or have already practiced. There are some chapters that may give you a different perspective on certain subjects but overall it's like reading the articles on ERE. I will say that some of the topics are very specific to unique industries or topics; therefore, if you are a recruiter wanting to advance into management or a manager with limited exposure or experience it's a good book to learn of good practices that work for companies. (remember there isn't a one size fits all approach to recruiting so read for knowledge not to take practices of other companies so you can replicate them for your business)
