Format: Paperback
Have you done "Stack and Whack" quilts or have your ever wanted to but haven't? Then this book will get you going in the right directions.

There aren't a lot of rules about creating these blocks and the ones there are will not be a problem to follow. The first few pages will provide you the instructions needed so be sure to read carefully. Also look for special tips set off in shaded boxes.

Materials and cuttings lists are easy to follow and a color photo with finished block and quilt sizes plus how many blocks are needed are the next item in the instructions. Graphics help you make sure you are "sorting" your blocks correctly for sewing. Unfortunately, "quilt as desired" is the only suggestions for finishing the projects.

The 11 projects definitely have my attention and I can't wait to begin. My only problem is which one first?!?

Revisit Karla...again! 9 Feb. 2011
By S. Geen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Stack the Deck by Karla Alexander is revisiting us all with an updated version of her first book. You will be asking yourself again, "how does she do that?" and she clearly shows us how. Roll of the dice hit home for me, it is bright and crazy and has clean cuts although at fist glance you would think it is scrap piecing, wrong. The blocks seem to float on this quilt, clearly a piece of art. That is what Karla is known for. She has you thinking, if you are not afraid of color, her books are a must. I love her Stained Glass pattern, her Every which way, the names alone tell you, they are bold, full of color and you will fall in love with her all over again.

Contemporary Crazy Quilts 25 Mar. 2011
By LynnM - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I love her books! Karla always finds quick and easy ways to create beautiful quilts! Her method of working with decks of fabric, keeps me interested as if I was reading a mystery, because the blocks appear as you cut and shuffle the decks.

The quilts in "Stack the Deck Revisited" are crazy quilts, but many go beyond, making the crazy piecing only part of a more refined block. When the crazy piecing is set into larger blocks, the quilts look more complex, and she has colored the blocks of some of the projects, to transform them into art quilts that would fit into contemporary homes. When the crazy pieced blocks are set with alternate blocks, or plain blocks, you will end up with a quilt that I imagine will have many asking "how did you do that?" The color washed quilts like Summer Solstice, Figs and Ginger, and the Scrappy Crazy Quilt Sampler are my favorites, but Goin' Green isn't far behind. The stack the deck technique is easy and it's always fun to see how the blocks come out!

easy, peasy 27 Jan. 2012

Since I've only been quilting less than 6 months, I want to do it the easy (and easily understood) way. This book explains the "stack and whack" method --- easy to understand and easy to sew --- the results are beautiful, and easy quilts.
