Unless you are an avid viewer of Masterchef, you are probably wondering who Stacie Stewart is. I confess, even though I watch Masterchef, I found myself struggling to recall Stacie until I got to the recipe in her book that she spectacularly goofed, and then I remembered.

I had high hopes when I first picked up the book, as I am any book on my favourite topic - baking. After flicking through the book, my first impressions were that the collection of recipes was somewhat uninspired. If you have several baking recipes books, and anyone that is seriously into baking will do, you will find the majority of the recipes you will have a dozen times in the books you already own. Other recipes are familiar staples that have been given a modern make-over. To be fair, the tag line on the front of the book does state `classic cakes', so I suppose that should have been a clue. It is a shame though, because the few that are more original are great, and the ones I tried were perfectly delicious.

The book opens with the usual twee `when I learned to bake' story that you often find at the front of a recipe book, and the author seems desperate to shout of her working class origins. This is followed by a few baking tips, some of which I actually disagreed with, others are obvious and common sense, but I guess useful if you are a complete novice.

The recipes themselves are separated into sections that are not consistent in theme. Some are occasions such as Easter, or Valentine's, but there are also sections for the seasons, and meal times. There is a mixture of sweet and savoury, with a leaning towards the sweet.

The recipes themselves are full of clear instructions, and even include little tips and pointers along the way which is helpful.

Lovely book, have baked the cover cake and not only did it turn out the same, it tasted delicious. Only gave four stars as there was not a picture for every recipe.

Former MasterChef contestant Stacie Stewart has become fairly well known from her stints on various TV shows such as This Morning and Food Glorious Food as the cheerful, beehived recipe creator and judge. The Sunderland native has drafted a book, Stacie Bakes, with treats which can be created for various holidays throughout the year. Unlike, for example, Paul Hollywood, Stewart leans less towards artisan breads and other savoury treats, much more in favour of decadent sweets. The sweets are also quite creative - instead of the same normal recipes that you often get in cookbooks, these have some great twists (the chocolate torte incorporates some coconut, the black forest gateau becomes white chocolate) and so while I will caution that the books is primarily interested in baked goods as opposed to candy or stove top creations, it would be a great fit for bakers who are interested in some fresh twists and flavour combinations.

This was purchased as a present and was surprised on how much detail is in the book and pleasantly surprised on the amount of recipes are inside and it also gives an insight into the life of Stacie. A fab purchase!!!

Stacie Bakes: Classic cakes and bakes for the thoroughly modern cook
Not the best baking book I own. Didn't really find it that inspiring. Too many photos of Stacie posing for the camera and not enough of the finished items. The recipes may be ok but I just am not really inspired to cook anything from it.

I enjoy watching Stacie on TV & saw her dem at the Food Show at NEC in November. I like Stacies relaxed & friendly style of presenting & I wasn't disappointed in her first book. There are familiar recipes as well as new ones & I'm looking forward to trying them out. I love the splattering of family photos & references, it makes the book feel like you're sitting at the table with a friend exchanging your favourite recipes. Well done Stacie!!!

This is a lovely book full of delicious recipes. There is a good mix of things to try - individual bakes, savoury bakes, impressive cakes, gluten-free treats, desserts etc.

The book is written in a very personal way and Stacie's personality really shines through in her anecdotes and descriptions of the bakes.

I have tried several things from this book and they have all been really tasty. A grand book from a grand chef.

I admit I am a cookbookaholic and cant resist a cooking or baking book. Having seen Stacie on Masterchef I liked her simple style. I was not disappointed with this book. Some of the bakes I know I will never make as they look too fussy and time consuming however the Beehive bars are already a weekly favourite and I have made the Pavlova , Banana bread and the Toffee and banana tart. I know I will use this book on a regular basis.
