Format: Audio CD
Recorded in Carnegie Hall early this year (I think) this album was recorded to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the iconic venue Preservation Hall in New Orleans. Special guests from an assortment of genres include George Wein, Del McCoury Band, Allen Toussaint, Ed Helms, GIVERS, Steve Earle, Tao Seeger, My Morning Jacket, Trombone Shorty, Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def), King Britt, Blind Boys of Alabama, and Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs. Quite a guest list. The music itself is beautifully recorded, traditional tunes played with gusto and they all appear to be having a whale of a time. Having visited Preservation Hall a couple of times myself I appreciate that to some afficiandoes the band are seen as a bit "touristy" and not "authentic" but I for one don't care as it is feel good music at its best.
