Give it time to grow 11 Jun 2003
Format:Audio CD
Well, unsurprisingly, a lot of people do not like this album. Even less sursprising is that most of those people would prefer it if bands didn't evolve, and insisted on churning out the same album. However, myself, and a few other music fans will take this album for what it is, learn to grow with it, and accept it for what it is; a very good metal album. Who cares that Kirk doesn't include a solo on this album - after all, they were becoming slightly boring and, dare I say, Kerry King-like. Who cares that Lars is banging on a tin can - the same could be said for "...and justice for all", and who doesn't like that album? Who cares that the production is raw - would you prefer a lifeless polished outing reminiscent of Def Leppard?

When all is said and done, this album shocks at first, but with a patient ear, and an open mind, you truly can get some great enjoyment out of it.

Learn to love it folks, don't be sheep and blindly dismiss this album.

Respect.

Reading these other reviews has made me furious. This album is utter rubbish and i am disgusted that a band i have loved for 11 years could try so hard to appeal to the masses of nu-metal kids and try to be something they are not. Heavyiest ever? I think not the song s are slow and dull, i was bored after three tracks, i still havent listened to it all the way through, i can't. Master of Puppets to name one of many is miles heavier, but obviously in a way that modern kids don't understand. Its not all about repepitive riffs like so many rubbish new bands would have you believe. Wheres the solos, the inspiring lyrics, the fantastic music we're accustomed to from metallica? Not here thats for sure. And the drums, honestly, it sounds like a toy drum set going tom tom tom, wheres the pounding bass drum and the slamming snare? tom tom tom duh duh duh rar rar rar is all you get in this album. By all means listen to it and make your own opinions, but dont be blinded by the name on the box.

Disappointing 10 Jun 2003
Format:Audio CD
Sorry guys, but I can sum up St. Anger in one word - disappointing.

I eagerly snapped up a copy at the weekend and hurriedly threw it into my car's CD player. I only got through 8 tracks before I had to switch it off. There is no catchy riff, no instantly memorable track, no carefully crafted lyric... nothing.

I can only hope that this is something of a slow-burner and will grow on me over time.

Guys, you ain't nu-metal (thank goodness). Neither are you Slipknot or Korn. Stick to what you're good at in future

Metallica at their most brutal.
