Product Description

Product Description

The second edition of "Squash Steps to Success" is fully revised and updated, bringing the tried and tested techniques of the previous edition in line with modern day practice. This time round Yarrow has teamed up with esteemed squash coach Aidan Harrison, to bring even more real court experience to the page. The result? Readers can look forward to two whole new chapters on Advanced Tactics and Conditioning for Squash. Each chapter contains clear, detailed descriptions, photos and illustrations to help improve movement, hitting, disguise and serve. Readers learn how to apply these skills in both defensive and attacking situations, gauging their progress against an intuitive scoring system that helps them to determine when they are ready to move onto the next step. This comprehensive new guide is a shining example of why the million selling "Steps to Success" series has become synonymous with sporting excellence the world over.

About the Author

Phil Yarrow has been competing in and winning squash tournaments for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Under-19 Junior Squad in his native England. While attending Nottingham University, he was both the English Universities and British Universities Champion. His school's team won the English Universities Team Championship in all three years of his time there. Phil moved to the U.S. in 1991 and won the National Amateur Championships in 1992 and 1993. At that time he was also building one of the best squash programmes in the country as head squash professional at Chicago's Lakeshore Athletic Club. Aidan Harrison has been heavily involved in squash since he first picked up a racket at the age of eight. Originally from Yorkshire, he captained the England under-19 junior team in 1990, which won the World Junior Team Championships, and he finished third that year in the individual event. Aidan turned professional at age 16 and played on the squash tour for five years, reaching the top 50 in the world rankings.

Within 30 pages, this book had made me aware of 2/3 basic problems with my game and given me an insight into how to solve them as well.

Each chapter becomes a building block for successive chapters, allowing you to correct basic faults before trying any advanced techniques. At the end of every (all that I've read) chapter there is a table that lists Common errors found within the area being improved and methods to correct them - I FOUND THIS INVALUABLE!

If I had to find fault, then I wish there were more pictures/drawings to explain the techniques and drills covered. However this won't detract much from my enjoyment of the book!

If you play squash for fun or are a little more serious, this book will have something to help you improve. I only hope the practice goes as well as the theory!!

The very precise and detailed descriptions of various shots and movements on the court helped me to improve my game dramatically. However, reading once is not enough. At the beginning, you have to concentrate on each and every single details. If you take the book advices and you are not impatient the book guides you thematically to a definetly other level of squash. If you do not recognize your improvement you can find advices for all typical misstakes. You can also find the most usefull drills in the book. Now, I am coaching my partners. And it was just because of this book! Only one advice: Do not be impatient and read certain chapters several times if you do not feel really comfortable in a particular shot or game situation. Although I have read the book many times I still find new things in it!

I was a squash beginner looking for improving my game without paying for expensive lessons. This book is just what I wanted. It is beautifully written, well illustrated and very smartly points out common errors providing their rectification tips. I would recommend going through the book with patience and practice all the drills given at the end of each chapter. Your game will DEFINITELY IMPROVE!!!
