4.0 out of 5 stars Quirky, addictive, fun!, 13 Jan 2009

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Exit (Nintendo DS) (Video Game)
I was looking forward to this game for ages, and it was worth the wait - Square Enix are great at producing stylish, simple graphics, and the gameplay is fiendishly addictive.

It's basically a puzzle game in the form of an old-fashioned 2-D platform 'adventure'. You play as 'Mr Exit' and your job is to rescue people in 10 different scenarios (each of which consists of 10 levels). All tasks (sometimes incorporating tools or switches) are performed using a simple point and click with the stylus.

Rescued people can help Mr Exit perform tasks (such as extinguishing fires or pushing blocks) in order to overcome the obstacles in each level. It gets hard - overcoming some obstacles requires a long sequence of steps and a good deal of thought.

The good thing is that most of the levels are unlocked once you've completed the first few. The bad thing is that if you're like me and you don't like moving on to the next level until you've completed the last, you could be waiting a while to explore the later scenarios!

Overall, an excellent game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Frustrating!, 21 July 2010
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Exit (Nintendo DS) (Video Game)
Mr Esc is on a mission - to rescue damsels from burning buildings and animals from floods. But he can't do it without you! This fun game requires a logical approach to help rescue victims from all sorts of dangers and there are various tools and objects to help you. The game isn't taxing although it does make you think about how to get Mr Esc and his victims to safety, ie through the Exit door. At times frustrating, as you think you've done it then a final obstacle stops you in your tracks and you have to start again! You are also playing against the clock but all this means is you have to start again and don't really lose lives or anything like that, just a few points if you are bothered by that, which I'm not. The graphics are good and stylish - make use of the two-screen facility to see the overall layout of the rescue mission area in the top screen and then work your way to escape in the bottom. A good game to dip in and out of when you feel like it.
