Book Description

Squad 19 is a short story and prequel to the novel - The Biomass Revolution. It can be read before, after or as a stand alone.

Welcome to Tisaia - The last hub of modern civilization, in a world left scorched by the nuclear fires of the Biomass Wars. Surrounded by a fortress of steel walls, and protected by a fierce and loyal Council of Royal Knights, Tisaia seems relatively safe to the average State worker and citizen. A plentiful supply of Biomass powers the cities, and food is abundant, but security has come at a terrible cost. The State will do anything to protect its resources, even if it means suppressing the rights of its citizens and deporting immigrants into the Wasteland - a virtual death sentence.

Sasa is a young immigrant who has been left for dead outside the safety of the Tisaian steel walls. It is only by a dash of luck the rebels find her and bring her back to Camp Salvation in the middle of the Wastelands. She is put to work as a technician, working to purify the camp's water, but more than anything she wants to fight.

Obi Hepe is the commander of Squad 19, the infamous arm of the rebellion. After surviving a ravenous dust storm, he is faced with a tough decision--train Sasa to fight and risk seeing her killed like so many others, or force her to work in a job she hates with no incentive. With the Royal Knights hunting his soldiers into the Wastelands Obi realizes he may not have a choice as he is going to need every gun he can get in a final battle for Camp Salvation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great short story... 14 Jun. 2013

As a fan of The Biomass Revolution I thoroughly enjoyed Squad 19. The story follows the lives of Obi, Ajax and the rest of the rebels in their fight for survival in The Wastelands.

The reader gets to see this world through Obi's eyes-- feel what it's like to be a leader after the world has ended and the responsibility he feels for his soldiers.

Make no mistake, this is a short story, but the author does a great job world building and diving into the characters in a short space.

From the opening dust storm scene to the end, Squad 19 is fast pace and exciting. Lots of action. I give it five stars. One more than I gave The Biomass Revolution because its that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well written short story 14 Jun. 2013

As a fan of Nicholas Smith's Biomass Revolution, I was eager to read his Squad 19 short story. The story is very well written and edited. Clean dialogue, detailed scene descriptions, and enough action to keep the pages turning. The story itself follows Obi, Ajax, Juliana, and a young girl (Sasa) as they struggle to survive in a world now controlled by a corporate evil. Living in caves, scavenging for supplies, and arming anyone who dares to fight, the small band does what it must to survive. I thoroughly enjoyed the short story, and I highly encourage others to pick up the full-length novel The Biomass Revolution (The Tisaian Chronicles).

5.0 out of 5 stars A great prequel to what should be a great book. 4 Nov. 2014

This short story prequel is well written and gives the reader a glimpse into what I imagine will be a fantastic book.
Smith is a master at painting a picture of a post apocalyptic world and how humans will fight to survive. This story is centered around the resistance to a new world order and the leader of a rag tag band of soldiers searching for a better life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scary realisitic 4 Aug. 2013

This story has enough of prophetic literature from many different belief structures. I love his take on the lack of real change in the culture after the apocalyptic event.

This also stacks up well against what many religious texts also teach.

I enjoyed the first book of the series as well.

Keep up the imagination and realism mix.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Post-Apocalyptic Glimpse 15 Jun. 2013
By Iowa Farm - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Squad 19 is a fascinating glimpse into the post-apocalyptic world of a small band of survivors struggling to regain their humanity. They've lost the families, friends and freedoms many of them once knew. Religion and iPhones are a distant memory to some, incomprehensible concepts to the younger ones in the squad. They all seem to understand, however, that they are fighting for the future of the world.

If you are a fan of "The Biomass Revolution" you will recognize some of the characters and gain a deeper understanding of them. You will also recognize the setting - the inhospitable wastelands surrounding the restored civilization of Tisaia. Even if you have not read TBR I think you will find this to be an exciting, fast-paced and easy read for a Saturday afternoon or whenever you're in the mood for some drama from the not-to-distant future.
