A remarkable book - for all the wrong reasons
on 27 October 2007
I bought this book for my husband who is a writer on SOE and related subjects - and watched his jaw drop as he read it. I am no expert myself, but the book appears riddled with unrelated elements and (at best) misconceptions. If I were a member of the Buckmaster family, for instance (Maurice Buckmaster was the head of SOE's F Section), I would be horrified by the sparse mention of him. This is not a serious book and I doubt if it would have found a publisher in the UK (it is published in the USA) where it would have been identified as a poor effort. The book by Sarah Helm 'A Life in Secrets' on the same subject is scholarly in comparison.
