A stipped down band may not appear to be the best vehicle for a voice as fragile as Emmylou Harris. But on this record it really works. The guitar playing of Buddy Miller is a revelation and his harmonies with Emmylou on "True Love Ways" are beautiful. Harris is terrific throughout. Her lived-in voice is a perfect antidote to modern day wailing divas

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the finest album ever 3 Jun 2000

This was my first Harris album and I was knocked out. The live performance is superb. The vocals are haunting and powerful. Good mix of songs. Credit must go to the band - excellent musicians. Buy this album - you will not be disappointed!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 9 Nov 1999

sorry that Emmylou Harris's voice is no longer what it used to be. She has now a broken voice that will not hold sharp notes in particular.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reprazent 4 Aug 2005
By A. Pfeffer - Published on
Format:Audio CD
Finger is producers Si John & Alex Swift. Si John also is the bassist on Roni Size's Reprazent 2 CD set. Though this CD isn't much like Roni Size's Reprazent CDs, it is a chance to get inside the head of the bass player Si John who appears on Reprazent, and it is a CD in the electronic music genre definately worth checking out. Finger is similar to Amon Tobin with some dub thrown in. It's got some drum-n-bass, but it is certainly not a straight ahead drum-n-bass CD. It's more experimental than that. I'm a big fan of Roni Size, but I actually like this CD better than Reprazent because it sounds more refined. It's a great CD to chill to. Everyone I've played it for has asked, "Who's that?" with positive interest. Chicks dig it, probably because it's not nearly as obnoxious as the 186bpm Dieselboy CDs I often torture people with.
3.0 out of 5 stars Would be four if there was more. 16 April 2000

For a 51-minute electronica album to be very good, nearly every track must be very good. This one has some standouts ("Third Eye Remix," "Sore"), but the rest of the album seems to tread water, albeit adeptly. In both the tight drum loops and the occasional laid-bare electronic sounds, Finger can sound like Hardfloor through some stretches, and that should be reason enough to buy the album.
See also the Milk compilation: "Silver Top" for assumedly some from Finger (and much more), and you can see the other review again. (?) This is neither acid jazz nor d&b, though there are tinges of both. This is nicely varied techno, and a small cut above the average act.
3.0 out of 5 stars Fine as a whole, but few stand out. 16 April 2000

If I'm not mistaken, o previous reviewer, this is a compilation album and indeed no "band" at all. The tracks by Pendulum are my favorites, and refreshing bits of organic sounds are mixed in to create something often more akin to ambient than D&B or acid jazz. It is a good compilation, and its unheard doom is a true shame.
