This is much more than just a children's book (although I'm sure it delights kids.) Amazingly detailed and photographed scenes draw you through a series a pictures detailing a journey through a spooky house. Along the way you search for items in the pictures, but it's much more than a simple find-the-hidden-objects puzzle because the scenes are filled with dozens of weird things that you aren't even asked to find. This book is great fun with friends of all ages!

I purchased this book for my 10-year-old daughter and what follows is my inerpretation of her opinion.

The quality of presentation is very high, well suited to children's tastes. It looks exciting on opening the package and each page, once opened, has a particular appeal to it. The number of pictorial riddles on each page is high and demand the child's concentration. One or two of the riddle-pictures are not as clearly identifiable as I had expected.

The down side is that it kept my daughter fully occupied for only one day. Maybe this indicates that, at 10, she is at the upper age limit for this type of book. I feel sure it would have kept a 5 or 6 year-old occupied for much longer.

I bought this book when stocking up on "emergency activities" before driving off on a half term holiday. I hadn't seen the book but remembered borrowing some of early ones in the series from the library a number of years ago for my now older kids. Each double page spread is a photo of very detailed models of rooms in the spooky house filled with all sorts of intricate paraphanalia (tiny models)semi concealed in ingenious ways. You then have to find a number of items in each page using the clues given which are in rhyme. There is a solution page at the back of the book if you get stuck (as we did on a few items). My seven year old who I got this for enjoyed finding all the stuff and his older sisters joined in too - so the book was finished pretty quickly!
Sadly, my son hasn't gone back to this book and hasn't asked for any others in the series (though I might borrow some from the library)so it was fairly expensive for an hour or so fun. However, I'm sure that if he had been a bit younger (or had no help)it would have occupied him for much longer.
The book is about A4 size and hardback with lovely colour photography - it would make a great Halloween activity or gift and I'm sure would be much looked at and enjoyed in a primary school classroom library.

From big "kids" to tiny tots (even my 2 year old finds the items we seek), everyone will love this I Spy version. The pages are creepy, crawly, yet full of delightful clues and items that one doesn't expect. Be sure to look for the teeny skeleton in each set.....Good light and reading glasses are recommended for the older set, but the kids seem to find the most! This I Spy was a valued member of our I Spy collection, which I put out not just at Halloween time, but bring out all year round!
