Product Description

The long-awaited reissue of the second part of the classic spy trilogy, HOOK, LINE and SINKER, when the Berlin Wall divided not just a city but a world.

Berlin-Kreuzberg: winter 1987. Through these grey streets, many people are hunting for Bernard Samson - London's field agent. He is perhaps the only man who both sides would be equally pleased to be rid of. But for Bernard, the city of his childhood holds innumerable grim hiding places for a spy on the run.

On a personal level there is a wonderful new young woman in his life but her love brings danger and guilt to a life already lacking stability. In this city of masks and secrets lurk many dangers - both seen and unseen - and only one thing is certain: sooner or later Bernard will have to face the music and find someone to trust with his life.

The end of the ride 29 April 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is by far the most action packed of the Samson books, and makes for very satisfying reading. I have noted in other reviews (see SPY SINKER) how unhappy I am with Deighton revisiting the plot of GAME, SET and MATCH. The net effect, without giving too much away, is that EVERYTHING our hero Bernard Samson does in the first trilogy turns out to have been planned: by whom would be telling. It might seem like a neat twist to the author, but I felt very much like Samson does - like I'd been taken for a ride, albeit perhaps an enjoyable one. The story ends here, by the way - don't read SPY SINKER, unless you are a masochist or work for the KGB.

Spy Line 13 Jan 2012
Format:Hardcover
I read Len Deighton's spy novels when they were first published. Looking for
something to read on my bookshelf I found some old copies and started reading
them again. I realised how his novels have stood the test time and what a skilful
writer he is developing his characters and the plot. For those who have not read him
before I recommend the trilogies.

Spyline 7 Dec 2011
Format:Paperback
I have read all the Bernard Samson books and I would recommend Spyline it is one of the best but I must disagree with some reviewers that if you read Spyline you need not bother with Spysinker , Spysinker it is not written from Bernard Samson's viewpoint who is kept ignorant of Fiona's real role as a double agent,It explains the back ground of Operation Sinker, the planning and more important much it is expressed from Fiona's standpoint the only Samson book which gives Fiona's thoughts and experiences and the loneliness and strain she is going through being separated from Bernard and the kids and of course her relationship with Harry Kennedy who doesn't appear much in any of the other books.
Spysinker is maybe the most important book because it covers Fiona's activities from the time she defects to when Bernard pulls her out to the west and it must be understood that some of the Bernard Samson books cover the same events from different standpoints,Fiona's extraction from the east by Bernard is covered both in Spyline and Spysinker so it's important to read them all.
I believe it is necessary to read Spyline and Spysinker,to get a complete picture,It is part of the trilogy.
