Le Sacre du printemps; "Muti presents the violence with red-blooded conviction...I shall be surprised if this interpretation does not remain top of my list, next to the composer's own."
Petrushka; "Muti secures playing og stunning virtuosity from the Philadelphia Orchestra."
I can not agree more with the above review by a Gramophone magazine critic (printed on the backcard). It is surprising indeed, the performance of such intensity and unlimited force (of Le Sacre) is virtually forgotten now, while less powerful accounts by Abbado, Rattle, Bernstein, Maazel are recommended with 5 stars. The relentless violence and the hightened sense of rhythm makes it almost unbearable to listen. Philadelphia O's brass is gloriously powerful.
Petrushika is no less impressive, with amazingly vivid playing by the orhcestra's woodwinds.
