IImy oap friends who find it very difficult to get a good read from modern authors.
lots of my friends reading it and now added to my sister's collection of Stevensons books. Wonder what will happen to her book (and mine)when we all leave this earthly lunatic asylum that we seem to be in nowadays?

Frances Comes of Age in Small Scottish Village... 18 Jan. 2008
By B. Roca - Published on Amazon.com
Frances Field is an orphan raised by her aunt and uncle in London. Her aunt was not abusive but was extremely selfish and domineering. Frances is a gentle girl and simply could not develop her own personality under such an influence. With the help of a local doctor and the Blitz, Frances goes out on her own at 25 years of age during the WWII. She saw a postcard of the village of Cairn in Scotland and decides to take a holiday there. She meets an very interesting cast of village characters as well as having an army encampment with several officers and their wives to get to know. How she makes her new life is a cozy read for a cold day.

This is one of my favorite D. E. Stevenson novels -- love seeing Frances come to life like the spring, make lots of new friends, and find her own place in life!
