More About the Author

Born in 1927, Eric Hill is the creator of Spot, 'the world's favourite puppy'. At 16 he joined an art studio, where he was encouraged to draw cartoons in his spare time. He particularly enjoyed drawing aircraft, and it was the markings of planes that later came to influence the design of Spot, reflected in the spots on his body and the tip of his tail. Eric also spent time in the air force, and worked in a large advertising agency as a graphic designer. In 1976 Eric's son Christopher was born and by the time he was two, Eric was making up stories about the adventures of a small puppy to read to him at bedtime and Spot was born!

The design of the books was inspired by an advertising flyer Eric had devised involving a flap covering an amusing picture. When Eric showed this to Christopher he saw how responsive he was to the idea and incorporated it into his book. Although initially created just as a story to please his son, Where's Spot? was actually published as a children's book in 1980 and started a new publishing concept of 'interactive books for babies'.

Eric Hill was awarded an OBE for services to Children's Literature in 2008.

Format:Hardcover
22 sturdy cardboard pages in the popular 2-page spread format.
Large bold, easy-to-follow text and 9 sturdy flaps ensure successful lifting/replacing, time and time again.
Colourfully illustrated throughout.

In this story, Spot is very excited because he is going to the beach for the day, with his Mummy and Daddy - 'Sally' and 'Sam'. Spot is keen to buy something, and Sam spoils him, like Dads do!
Spot has great fun with the sand much to the interest of a passing seagull, goes fishing, gets a little bit wet and makes a new friend.
All in all a rather busy day!

Delightful book, further enhanced by the endearing expressions and the occasional 'helpful' comment from the characters hidden behind the flaps!

From the back cover:-

'SPOT is one of the essential experiences of childhood' - Parent Magazine.'

4.0 out of 5 stars Adorable lovable Spot the dog 26 Mar 2010
Format:Board book
Bought for my two toddler boys who love Spot. They love the original book so I thought this one would be different. It holds their attention throught and they love looking under the flaps to find the pictures. It is a short sweet story that I dont mind reading 3 or 4 times in a week. Recomend from a young age to older children who can they say what is happening in the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daughter loves it 14 Feb 2012
Format:Board book|Verified Purchase
This is a lovely little book. The story is simple, and my daughter who is nearly 3 and got it on her 2nd birthday has been read it loads of times.
The flaps are very secure, and of course she enjoys lifting them.
A great typical Spot book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great books for little children 17 May 2010
By Chrissy
Format:Board book
I bought this for my 27 months old daughter as she loves Spot. The pages are thick enough for toddlers to turn them with ease. The storylines are simple and the pictures and the "lift the flap" feature give parents and children a starting point to elaborate on the story. My daughter finds it really engaging and has come up with her own versions of the stories... we discuss this and other Spot's books several times a day. The pictures are bright and colorful with the right amount of details for the age-group these books are aimed at.
I will definitely buy more books of this series.

My grandson loved the gift and it was his number one book all Christmas.
Really good value. Being a board book makes it hard wearing for a little
one year old.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well thumbed family favourite 28 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this for my 2 year old to introduce him to the concept of going to the beach on holiday as it was his 1st time this Easter....

He loves the book so much we read it all the time. His speech has also really improved. He called his last Spot book the "dog book" but now actually says "Spot goes on holiday" and other phrases from the book.

Not as good as rest of series as my 10 mth old finds it harder to lift these flaps. Maybe as they re smaller and some have less contrast? Still a fun read though.
