I saw Wallis Bird supporting Rodrigo y Gabriela at the Birmingham o2 Academy a month or so ago and decided to check a couple of her tracks out before I saw her.
I was blown away! Counting to Sleep was the first track I heard and loved it, great chorus. Then the rest just kept getting better. I bought Spoon and New Boots the day I got home from the gig, 2 favourite albums of all time now. The incredible performance she gave in Birmingham made me pick up the guitar and play again.
1 Counting to Sleep
2 6 ft 8
3 Slow Down
4 The Circle
5 Blossoms in the Street
6 You Are Mine
7 Moodsets
8 Country Bumpkin
9 Just Keep Going
10 All for You
11 Bring Me Wine

Not a bad track on the album, I could rant for hours about how good each one is but I'll let you find out for yourself. They're all so different, a very varied album.
I never bother reviewing products on amazon but I had to review this and New Boots.
Spoons changed my view of music and life in general with inspired lyrics and great guitar playing, open your mind, buy the album, and let it change yours.

I bought this album on a bit of a whim, after hearing some of 'Blossoms In The Street' and am so pleased I did. After listening to it for a while, I'm pleased to say its a great album. I think for me it seems to be the product of an artist not afraid to experiment with song composition, as most of the songs are contemporary but original!

Bird's vocal style is probably comparable to Nelly Furtado and particularly K.T. Tunstall - She's able to use beautiful, quiet and tender notes, with higher snarl-like climaxes. Some of the songs on this album do sound slightly similar, but each is unique as well. 'Counting To Sleep' is a tense tale which builds up to a great climax. '6ft8' is just great, its got a really original composition and some lovely vocals.
The heartfelt and poignant 'The Circle' is another of my favourites and definitely one of the highlights of the album - I really love the guitar and Bird's intimate vocals on this album, as well as the climax. 'Blossoms In The Street' is a startling, radio-friendly song, very good. The loveliest songs on the album are certainly 'You Are Mine' and 'All For You', two love songs which are both simple yet deeply heartfelt.

To summarise this album with 11 interesting, catchy and original songs; Bird is a really talented artist who's musically daring and fun, and I'm now eager to see her live.

I'm blessed with an insight into this girls mind from years of watching her on the local circuits and having been lucky enough to hang on many occasions. Therefore I get so much extra pleasure in seeing this physical CD and hearing its content. Go watch Wallis at any given opportunity and you will love the album even more. Don't compare this unassuming star to any of the current pop trash out there and listen to her words they truly come from her heart. Rock on Wallis Bird.
