Review

"Often Sunday night galas such as this are hastily put together, but it was apparent Stiles and Drewe - onstage throughout the evening - along with a sophisticated creative team had put a great deal of thought into devising this one." --The Stage

"Gareth Gates proved not only that he has left his Pop Idol days behind him, but also his undoubted potential as an accomplished theatre performer." --Musical Stages

5.0 out of 5 stars A musical treat 3 Jan 2009
Format:Audio CD
Stiles & Drewe are two of Britain's most successful musical theatre composers and this CD brings together a collection of their best songs, especially highlighting their talent for humour in their writing. This is a live recording but the quality of the production and the standard of the performances from a cast of West End stars mean you would never know if it wasn't for the audience applause. The highlight of the CD is the chance to hear songs from their upcoming original musical Soho Cinders, especially the beautiful Wishing For The Normal. Gareth Gates really shines in the lead role, leaving his reality TV beginnings far behind him - I hope we get the chance to see him perform when the show is properly staged.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heaped spoonfull of talent 7 Sep 2009
Format:Audio CD
What a show to have missed!!! Thank goodness for this C.D. showcasing an impressive line-up of talent. I can't wait for a production of "Soho Cinders" to come into the Westend. Three of the tracks on this album are from this (as-yet) un-performed show and include the hilarious "It's hard to tell" ; a beautifully sung duet "Gypsies in the Ether" by "Wicked" star Oliver Tompsett and "Joseph" star Gareth Gates;and a heart-rending solo "They don't make glass slippers" by Gareth Gates. If you like show-tunes past- present- and future by the cream of Londons West-end then this album is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great live recording 11 Feb 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
In a time where new musical writers are getting deterred from writing due to a lack of platforms or where musical artists spend some money on releasing CDs with just piano-vocal, yet charge as much as fully produced albums, this 'Spoonful of Stiles & Drew' is a breath of fresh air.

Great songs, great cast, great band, well-produced and just a must-have in any theatre lover's collection.
