Product Description

FragFX v.2 for the PlayStation 3

The FragFX v.2 features a separate right hand mouse controller and detachable left hand grip controller, ideal for experiencing the traditional PC mouse and keyboard style gameplay of shooter games in a console environment.

  • v.2: Improved optical mouse
  • v.2: Improved Frag button
  • v.2: Improved mouse sensitivity
  • v.2: Improved motion sensitivity
  • v.2: Improved mouse buttons
  • v.2: Improved d-pa
  • v.2: Improved games support

    Key FragFX controller features include
  • The right hand mouse controller has the complete set of PS3 controller buttons. The mouse is used during game play to shoot, look left, right, up and down for that same PC style game play experience on the PlayStation 3.
  • The mouse is optimized for navigation within the recently announced PlayStation Home virtual world.
  • A menu mode on the mouse allows it to double as a regular mouse during menu selections. A lap mouse pad and left hand grip cradle is included with the FragFX to allow for comfortable play in a living room setting.
  • The left hand re-programmable grip (nicknamed the "FragChuck" by G4TV) has the full range of 6-axis motion control providing Wii-like motion sensitivity for the PlayStation 3. In games like Resistance: Fall of Man, to reload a weapon or to rifle butt an opponent, the user can swing the FragChuck.
  • The FragChuck also offers a game speed dial and frag button. When the frag button is pressed it slows the mouse down to incremental movement for smooth sniper shots. The speed dial allows for instant fast or slow overall game play. These two additional features let the user get out of battles as fast as they get into them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Split Fish and MAG plus driver issues or tones 13 Feb 2010

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Ok first things first.
Everyone will tell you to get the latest driver for this. Normally v3.03 or 2.xx but not the v1.00 that ships with the product.
If you go onto Split Fish website you will find there are 4 VERSIONS of the driver. If you do not load the right upgrade you will lock the fish. How do you know you have locked the fish ??? You will get a VERY LOUD tone from the fish (may be intermittant) and nothing will work. DON'T panic. Get back on the website and make sure you load the right driver and the tone will stop and the fish will work again. This is down to personal experience. OK so how does the fish work ? Well with MAG not so good. I adjusted the dial sensitivity on my v2 FISH all the way up to nine (max) and it was (the mouse) very sluggish, so I reviewed the aditional adjustments and maxed them out as well, and it's better but not as good as a PC and mouse effect. It's laggy and frustrating. If like me you are not very good with console controls then you might be tempted to pin your hopes on the Split Fish. Don't. It's a great idea but it's just not there yet. As a PC player I have top quality mice and set for responsive play for MW2 and similar games. This Split Fish is nowhere near as good. Like I said ... great ideas but they haven't sorted out the unresponsive behaviour yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better as time goes one... 24 Jan 2010

Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
I initially gave this product a poor write up, as it was cheap feeling and jerky while playing FPS games.....since then I've tried the Fragnstein (the other Mouse on the market for PS3)....I liked that at first, felt better and closer to an actual PC Mouse....however the micro movements on the fragnstein are not nearly smooth enough and it's very very jerky even with latest firmware at time of writing.

I also find the fragnstein that bit heavier to move, which is essential when playing a fast flowing game like COD MW2....

On to the Fragfx V2...I'd abandoned this for a few weeks after only giving it a shot play......however, going back to it recently, I have been kicking myself.....this targets very smoothly and is as good as the official PS3 controller for those micro movements, by that I mean looking at a target through a given scope..

The mouse being light, means it's easy to pick up and move during intense firefights.........

Ok, it's on a cable and is cheap feeling...but it does make FPS games like MW2 a joy.....

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I had previously owned a Frag FX (v1) for over a year and a half. I only play Call of Duty 4 with it. For those that cannot make the easy transition to playing FPS games with the controller and are used to a Mouse/Keybaord setup then this is a good alternative.

I have read reviews about this product from the seemingly more hardcore PC gamers that report on build quality and feel of mouse buttons top be poor and that if you are used to the Keyboard and mouse on PC then the Frag FX does not compare. While I do not disagree that the Frag FX is not as responsive and smooth as a PC gamin mouse, it does it's job well. And that's allowing a PS3 gamer to pick headshots more accurately and quickly than with an analog stick.

Those that are worried about the build quality should rest assured that v2 Frag FX has a higher build quality than of previous versions. I have owned both, the first gave up on me after 1.5 years of solid use playing COD4 thourgh to COD:WAW and then back again to COD4. It was the analog stick that finally went on mine and which is why I bought the new one.

For those who do not like wires, they have a wireless version of the Frag FX supposedly coming out soon.
