The first thing that one should be aware of is that the piping, control cable and drain pipe require a 650mm hole to pass through any wall. Production of this size hole through a red brick wall in my case was the hardest part of the installation as this required special drills and drill bits to be hired.
The distance from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit has to be carefully calculated as the units only come with 4 metres of pipes and control cable. I found that it was best to install the outdoor unit and the pipes first before installing the indoor unit. This way you know how much pipe is available.
The pipes are delivered in two coils. All the connectors are fitted. I found it easier to use an adjustable spanner on these connectors as there was no consistency in the size of the connectors.
The installation instructions mention about being careful not to kink or compress the pipes. This was worrying as the pipes are covered in insulation. Also the average person does not have the tools to correct this problem. However, as long as one follows the recommended instructions for bending and straightening the pipes, it is quite simple.
I installed the units myself but have decided that it would be better to have two sets of hands when the pipes are connected to the indoor unit. One person to hold the indoor unit and the other to connect the pipes. It is also helpful when checking for leaks. Access to the pipe connections is difficult once the unit is one the wall.
It took me a week to install mainly as I could only spend an hour a day on installation.Read more ›
Therefore I strongly advise all those thinking of purchasing this or similar products do so with from another company and choose a different system
This is the first time I have ever felt the need to write such a review of a company I have dealt with through Amazon.
The problem is not with the product but with suppliers.
Suppliers that offer installation will charge in excess of a £1500 for delivering and installing. It is a scandal!
These air conditioners are one of the most energy efficient and `green' ways of heating our homes yet they are rarely used domestically in this country. (They can be found in most homes in Mediterranean countries).
I bought mine from a [...]. The price was good the serves anything but! I ordered and paid by phone, for two Inverter type air cons (they are the most efficient to operate), but was delivered two of these. Because of time limitations I decided to keep them. However, this model was £70 cheaper than the Inverter. So I'm due £140 refund. It took nearly a week to get any confirmation (so I had no proof of my original order) and after spending over £20 on calls (no call back and no reply to emails...) I am still waiting for the refund (despite repeated promises of `it will be done today').
So my advice is; buy `easy fit' products - they can be fitted by most capable electricians - or `DIY' ones, they can be fitted by a capable DIYer.
Don't be alarmed by talk of `regassing' and `purging' - do your research!
Try companies on Amazon as Amazon are very good at solving problems with suppliers(thank you Amazon!).
Don't be put off! Air conditioners are a fantastic and economical way of heating your home.
The instructions provided were easy to understand although I had a couple of installation issues:
a) The manual says you should hear a sound of pressure being released when you undo one of the pipe connectors on the indoor unit. If not then there could be a problem.
b) the pre prepared copper pipe is easy to bend and you do have to be careful in that regard. Follow the instructions to the letter and you should be OK though. The only critiscism is that it comes in a roll and straightening it in a confined space was a real pain! The pipe also had a kink in it which wasn't visible until I cut the covering.
I contacted the guys at the airconditioning centre who advised me not to worry about the pressure issue and, after checking a photo of the kinked pipe, confirmed it would be OK. They were absolutely right and it's working perfectly. In fact they couldn't have been more helpful, giving me additional advice on the installation. It was really great, in these days of anonymous call centre "clones", to actually talk to people who knew their product and were able to provide on the spot assistance! I'd recommend them, and the product, any time.
