Product Description

A milestone in television comedy, Spitting Image lifted satire to a new level for over a decade through the 1980s and '90s.

No target was safe from the series' gunsights: politicians of all persuasions, Thatcher, Nelson Mandela and even the Royal Family could find themselves up for a ribbing on any given programme. In this complete ninth series Kinnock goes missing in a bid to win over the voters, Rod Stewart, Steven Fry and Cliff Richard participate in Channel 4's latest offering, Sex Talk, the Queen goes 'street', and Bros wonder why they're not famous anymore.

This set features the combined vocal talents of Roger Blake, Steve Coogan, Hugh Dennis, Steve Nallon, Kate Robbins and John Thomson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Le roi est mort. Vive le roi 11 July 2013

Spitting Image's leading puppet Maggie Thatcher is laid to rest, but continues to dominate the Tory party after replacing John Major's brain with a remote-control. Elsewhere Bush Snr plots a war against a nutty Saddam Hussein, Fergie milks her status as a royal for all its worth, Graham Taylor's disasterous stint as England football manager begins, Gorbechev goes in search of the last potato in Russia and Neil Kinnock desperately tries to grab the media's attention.

The "series within a series" format continues with three puppets (Mr Spock, David Steel and an anteater) escaping their masters and facing the horrors of the real world (including a young Nick Hancock as a mugger). Stop-motion continues in the form of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles parody and the songs include such memorable numbers as No More Christmas Singles, Cry Gazza Cry and the Charity Song. What is amazing is how many of these sketches, despite being over twenty years old, are still relevant now. Just change the names and faces and bingo. Great satire and certainly nice to remember an age when TV shows could properly mock our rulers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, it's released 31 July 2013

It took awhile but it's all worth it. Great series, features Thatcher in a coffin episode, Saddam's puppet makes his debut, and great songs from No More Christmas Singles, We're Guilty, Cry Gazza Cry, and The Charity Song. I'm really excited about series 10 coming up this October. :)
