United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Box Set, Interactive Menu, Multi-DVD Set, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: A milestone in television comedy, Spitting Image lifted satire to a new level for over a decade through the 1980's and 90's. No target was safe from the series' gunsights: politicians of all persuasions, Ronald Reagan, the Pope and even the Royal Family could find themselves up for a ribbing on any given programme. Exceptionally topical, the series was worked around that current weeks news stories to retain its biting edge and many famous impressionists honed their craft portraying the voices behind the wickedly accurate rubber puppets: Chris Barrie, Rory Bremner, Phil Cornwell, Steve Coogan, John Culshaw, Harry Enfield and Kate Robbins (among many others). This show was one of the great ages of satire, a kind of political grown-up version of the Muppets. Politicians, film stars, singers, the Royal Family and many others in the public eye are represented here in latex puppet form. Included are a terrifying Thatcher, a terminally confused Reagan, a leather-clad Norman Tebbit, a Tory cabinet full of the likes of sex-mad Cecil Parkinson, self-obsessed Jeffrey Archer, creepy Norman Fowler and bumbling Nigel Lawson. The Labour party also make regular appearances with Neil "the windbag" Kinnock and a spitting Roy Hattersley. There's also the Two Davids (Owen and Steel). As well as the puppets there are stop-motion sequences, including send-ups of things like Trumpton and take-offs of well-known fairy tales.

The show is written, vocalised and produced by some of the most talented people on British television (just look at the end credits of any of these episodes. It's like "spot the person who's now famous"). Harry Enfield, Ben Elton, Rory Bremner, Grant & Naylor, Ian Hislop, Chris Barrie and many others all helped make this show a success. The politicians in these 1980s series may have changed, but so many of the jokes are still relevant today. This box set features all the Spitting Image TV episodes from 1984 to 1989. There's no sign of the specials, but this set is still an absolute goldmine of satire and well worth the money.

An iconic comedy program that was a massive hit with it's Micky take on life and people of the time,From politicians to comedians, what ever was at the height of the news or times they saw fit to take it to the maximum, the puppets were so life like even though they had exaggerated features which is what made them all the funnier.
Maggie Thatcher was in power at the time and was a massive hit with her way of dealing with her wayward cabinet members even her husband Denise got a part.
Very clever and funny well worth going back and watching to remind you of all those times, would recommend.

Classic 23 Dec 2011
Format:DVD
Spitting Image never gets old its still one of the most funniest shows ever to be seen on british television its a timeless piece of comedy.

The box set covers series one to seven not sure why they chose not to add series eight I would have preferred a complete collection of spitting image. I have to say I'm not impressed by the quality of the picture it looks as if you were watching a video not a dvd I think they could have done a much better job with improving the quality of the picture I have to say I'm disappointed with it.
