5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect companion to The Eraser, 14 Dec 2006
By Mr. T. S. Carpenter "colderclimate" (Reading, UK) - See all my reviews

Effectively an emalgamation of the UK single b-sides (3 of which were limited edition vinyl-only tracks) and the video to Harrowdown Hill (which stirred up memories of Bjork's Joga video), Spitting Feathers is a real gem.

The Drunkk Machine and Iluvya are a little more quirky than most of Thom's Eraser material but equally fascinating. A Rat's Nest is pretty great and the extended mix of Harrowdown Hill is a great bonus for those who didn't catch the single upon it's UK release.

The artwork, in typical Japanese import manner, is lavish and excellent, the cd housed in a fine protective sleeve inside a die-cut sleeve even prettier than the original Eraser sleeve. All in all, it's a perfect companion to the album and a cd no self-respecting fan should be without.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3 fine b-sides, but too expensive, 8 Jun 2007
By P. Warren (London, UK) - See all my reviews

OK, first-up, just to correct the last review - these are not vinyl-only b-sides - I bought them all quite legitimately as downloads. Secondly, I payed considerably less downloading 3 b-sides than the asking price for this Japanese import. OK so you get a video and an extended mix too... But well, nice though the packaging is, can they really justify the import mark-up on this item? It's not imported from Mars, it's imported from Japan - where CD's are cheaper than over here, incidentally. I can't help thinking this is a rip-off, cynically aimed at completists who aren't going on holiday to Japan anytime soon. Despite all this talk of 'levelling the CD price playing field', there's little doubt that UK music fans are still being ripped-off by record companies. Nuff said.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lost Partner To The Eraser, 26 May 2007
By Todd Bevan "Cultural Stakeholder" (Cambridgeshire, UK.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Assuradly Thom Yorke is a musical genius, be it with Radiohead or his solo career its widely agreed he is a talent at creating something new, different and superb. The Eraser was a macabre step into Yorke's brain exploring further his ideals and opinions. Spitting Feathers, is very unique. Essentially, its not like The Eraser. Only having its release in Japan it was an almost secretive expedition for Yorke. Its dark, sombre and somewhat detached. However it does have strong beats, with heavy flowing bass lines. Yorke's lyricism is also rather audioble comparred with some of his musical outings. Its a fresh sound but also familiar.

Track by track, we can say that "The Drunkk Machine" is fast paced, like fluttering visions or memories, good beats provide a good tempo for thought. "A Rat's Nest" is dark, depressive and removed from the rest of the album. "Jetstream" is vert pacey. It has quick clicky beats, with fast lyrics, strong feelings of monotiny, like a daily commute. The "Harrowdown Hill (Extended Mix)" track is superb, its not better nor worse than the original recording, its a slightly different version, but just as enjoyable. Lastly "Iluvya" is a very quirky track. Its different, repetitive and very creepy, but, regardless, easily listened to.

A superb EP, which we must remember, this is an EP, not an album. Do not disregard it for its length, if your a fan of later Radiohead, or Thom Yorke, this album should be in your collection.

The Eraser is a musical gem, but it's by no means perfect. While some of it resonates magnificently, such as "Atoms For Peace", "And It Rained All Night" and "Cymbal Rush", some... Read more
