A remake of the controversial 1979 cult classic, I Spit on Your Grave retells the horrific tale of writer Jennifer Hills, who takes a retreat from the city to a charming cabin in the woods to start on her next book. But Jennifer's presence in the small town attracts the attention of a few morally deprived locals who set out one night to teach this city girl a lesson. They break into her cabin to scare her. However, what starts out as terrifying acts of humiliation and intimidation, quickly and uncontrollably escalates into a night of physical abuse and torturous assault. But before they can kill her, Jennifer sacrifices her broken and beaten body to a raging river that washes her away. As time passes, the men slowly stop searching for her body and try to go back to life as usual. But that isn't about to happen. Against all odds, Jennifer Hills survived her ordeal. Now, with hell bent vengeance, Jennifer's sole purpose is to turn the tables on these animals and to inflict upon them every horrifying and torturous moment they carried out on her... only much, much worse.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Jigsaw and Jason Voorhees reincarnation 13 May 2011
Fans of the 'Saw' franchise will enjoy the final half of this trap fest, the only difference being the 'traps' are impossible to escape from, as they are designed to kill.

The opening moments to 'I Spit on Your Grave', remind me of 'Friday the 13th'. A lone women taking a break in a wooden chalet overlooking a lake in the middle of nowhere, with an old shed and rowing boat thrown in for good measure.

There are some brutal scenes within, and the revenge scenarios very tongue in cheek as to how they could all be carried out to military precision, but yes, ok, it's only a film, not a documentary, so not to worry.

So instead of a masked man taking revenge on people we have a 'Jason Voorheesesq' women taking revenge on those who raped her. Uncomfortable torture viewing follows, with cringe worthy results. Jigsaw would be proud.

An unusual spin to have a female getting the upper hand of her attackers, and to administer a punishment fitting to their crimes, if rapists deserve to be murdered that is.

Entertaining, but not a film you would repeat too often..........(not if you're a guy anyhow, ouch)

4.0 out of 5 stars A horror movie not to be taken TOO seriously 17 Feb 2011
This is a movie I personally thoroughly enjoyed. I will admit purely for the fact that as a horror fan, I usually see films where women are butchered and mutilated at the hands of males...and females. It's nice to see the victim get the upper hand for once.

Although this film is very gorey I did enjoy it. Everyones opinion will differ. To some the revenge will seem over the top, a bit unrealistic and morally out of order.

But I believe although the subject matter rape/torture etc is quite heavy/serious it isn't a film to be over analysed and taken too seriously. It is what it is, woman raped and humilated by hillbillies, woman gets her revenge on the men.

I will admit to being one of those who along with my mum was sat their cheering along. After all, it isn't real. Its just a movie.

I give it four stars because I enjoyed it, but its not a masterpiece or anything special and to a lot of people could be considered unsavoury, not for the feint hearted!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST MOVIE 2010 6 Jun 2014
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase

The 2010 remake of 1978's I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE / DAY OF THE WOMAN is one of the very few remakes that are actually better than the original.
Sarah Butler delivers a stunningly brilliant performance as Jennifer Hills, besting even the most degrading scenes in the most convincing way. When she gets her revenge one can only root for her. The character development from victim to avenger is believable and well acted.
Director Steven R. Monroe did a great job taking the focus of the endless rape scenes of the original and increasing the revenge part, which is far more satisfying than in the original and far more brutal. The gore effects are well done and extremely unsettling.
The UK version loses some of the intensive rape/abuse scenes, but the revenge and gore remain completely intact, which makes it still highly watchable.
Not for everyone's taste - extremely violent. Banned in Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand and (o surprise!) Germany.
My favorite film of 2010.
6.0 STARS OUT OF 5.0. Just kiddin'. 5.0 OUT OF 5.0 STARS.

Please note that this review is for the uncut Australian release. Since I wrote this review Amazon have lumped all the reviews for this movie together meaning that this is showing up on the cut Uk Blu ray page. The Australian version is futher down tje list, has a different cover and black Austrailan R18+ logo on the sleeve. For anyone wanting to see the full uncut and uncensored version of this glossy but ultimately shallow remake to one of the most reviled movies of the last century I am pleased to say that this region B Blu ray from Australia is exactly the same as the uncut region A locked BD release that Anchor Bay put out in America. As it was always expected the UK Blu ray is cut. Now this is only 43 seconds but when you consider that 17 individual scenes had to be cut in order for this to get an 18 certificate it is quite a substantial amount of material.
I Spit On Your Grave 2010 follows pretty much the same story as the 1978 original with a pretty young female author Jennifer renting a house deep in the serene and peaceful Louisiana countryside which she believes will be the perfect setting to pen her latest novel away from the hustle and bustle of city life. After a minor altercation at a local gas station where she embarrasses tough guy attendent Johnny infront of his gleering yokel friends she believes all is forgotten and soon settles into the quiet life in her pretty new home by the river. All of this is soon to change though when Johnny who still holds a grudge after the gas station misunderstanding finds out through a local handyman who also happens to be one of his group where Jennifer is residing. To prove this one of Johnny's gang secretly videotapes a nearly nude Jennifer prompting the boys to pay a visit.
