A remake of the controversial 1979 cult classic, I Spit on Your Grave retells the horrific tale of writer Jennifer Hills, who takes a retreat from the city to a charming cabin in the woods to start on her next book. But Jennifer's presence in the small town attracts the attention of a few morally deprived locals who set out one night to teach this city girl a lesson. They break into her cabin to scare her. However, what starts out as terrifying acts of humiliation and intimidation, quickly and uncontrollably escalates into a night of physical abuse and torturous assault. But before they can kill her, Jennifer sacrifices her broken and beaten body to a raging river that washes her away. As time passes, the men slowly stop searching for her body and try to go back to life as usual. But that isn't about to happen. Against all odds, Jennifer Hills survived her ordeal. Now, with hell bent vengeance, Jennifer's sole purpose is to turn the tables on these animals and to inflict upon them every horrifying and torturous moment they carried out on her... only much, much worse.

This is a movie I personally thoroughly enjoyed. I will admit purely for the fact that as a horror fan, I usually see films where women are butchered and mutilated at the hands of males...and females. It's nice to see the victim get the upper hand for once.
Although this film is very gorey I did enjoy it. Everyones opinion will differ. To some the revenge will seem over the top, a bit unrealistic and morally out of order.
But I believe although the subject matter rape/torture etc is quite heavy/serious it isn't a film to be over analysed and taken too seriously. It is what it is, woman raped and humilated by hillbillies, woman gets her revenge on the men.
I will admit to being one of those who along with my mum was sat their cheering along. After all, it isn't real. Its just a movie.
I give it four stars because I enjoyed it, but its not a masterpiece or anything special and to a lot of people could be considered unsavoury, not for the feint hearted!

Goodness me! Well this movie is brutal. I have not seen the original (was too young when it was released... It was banned before I even heard about it) so this review is not going to be based on comparison. As a standalone movie, it works well. I can't say I enjoyed it, and I am not even sure enjoyment was on the agenda. It was curiosity. If you like films like Hostel and Saw, then you would almost certainly like this one too. However, there is a difference. Unlike Saw and Hostel it doesn't have that over the top convoluted extra effort to try and introduce twists, it is what you see is really what you get!
Believe it or not, there seemed to be a moral question in all this .., does the revenge punishment ever fit the crime? does it have to be more than the sum of crime? Watch and decide for yourself ...if you can.

I must admit to a small, guilty pleasure. But I always rather liked the original film and as the years have passed it's also gained that gloss of cult appreciation.
So, it was with some trepidation that I watched this sequel. After all, how many sequels ever hold a candle to the original, let alone surpass it? Well, I'm not sure even this achieves the latter, but I would say it is a very creditable remake with acting and sets solid and believable. Of course the story is a nonsense gorefest, but then you're not likely to watch this seeking a cold and dispassionate appraisal of justice and retribution now, are you?!
Gorey it certainly is - and you may well watch it in bursts glimpsed through your fingers - but it is a worthy sequel and I recommend it.

Scary!
