Product Description

In retrospect, it should have been obvious: expose your bored daughters to the toxic combination of heavy-metal death fantasies, punk-rock nihilism, violent rap misogyny and fuck-me feminism, and Kittie is what you get. This band belies the notion that the only rock from Canada is either by hollow-voiced sirens or is over-intellectualised prog-rock. The fact that all of the band's members are still in high school is almost incidental, as Spit contains a maturity and insight, not to mention a musicianship, not usually ascribed to the under-21 set. Consider the lyrics to "Paperdoll", which addresses stereotypical images of women: "They try her on for size / She fits nice / One size fits all...." All four members are strong musicians, but special notice must be paid to lead singer Morgan Lander, who whispers kitten-soft one second and lets loose an ear-shattering howl the next. Kittie's aggressive, full-bore music, in the grand tradition of Babes In Toyland and L7, pulls no punches and makes no compromise. --Genevieve Williams

5.0 out of 5 stars Your mouth will drop in awe 24 July 2001
Format:Audio CD
Kittie are the best new metal band there is. In some ways they are a female version of slipknot, the Music on the CD is awesome as morgan changes from a soft sweet voice to a loud scream and the musical side is just as amazing as the lyrics, this is a band that can realy sing and play it's instruments and knows how to make a must have CD, any fan of slipknot, coal chamber or any new metal MUST have this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Intelligent Girl Metal Band 3 July 2002
Format:Audio CD
KITTIE are a four piece girl metal band from canada and boy, do they rock. KITTIE (Morgan, Mercedes, Talena and Fallon) have allready released a few EP's (Charlotte EP and Paperdoll EP) befor releasing this full length album SPIT.
On the first album the lyrics are intelligent (although most of them are about broken hearts and revenge on boys who f**ked them over).
The music is like KoRn, Slipknot etc, most of the time its crashing drums, pounding riffs and screaming vocals although sometimes it does stop and chill (Paperdoll), but not for long.
Morgans vocals is a perfect example of what KITTIE are all about, the vocals are delivered with understanding and pain.
The Bass is good but never really gets a chance to show, The Drums are in the usual nu-metal style and the guitar riffs are good.
If you like this then buy their 2nd album ORACLE (better than SPIT) and their video - KITTIE , SPIT IN YOUR EYE.

This has to be one of the best albums I've bought in a long time. If you think that Kittie will be good to listen to with your gran then you're WRONG! This is a really good album to listen to if you've had a really bad day or you're feeling a bit yuk, it'll make you feel a whole lot better, you'll be rockin along with Kittie in your bedroom! The best songs are Brackish and Paperdoll.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Metal album of the year so far! 17 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
If u think your going to get the Spice Girls or anything else like that then you are sadly mistaken cause they have real girl power by rocking with raw emotion and cold but true lyrics, with songs like "Suck" which aims straight away at all the doubters to the loud and proud and favorite of mine "Brackish" and the slowed down "Paperdoll" and "Imortal". This is an album i would recomend to any rock fan who hasn't heard of these yet.

Yes you've read correctly Type O-Negative and Cathedral both have serious competition via the band called Kittie. Kittie by name Kittie by nature, wrong! The girls have got attitude and there not afraid to show it either. Some of the best songs like Spit, Brackish and Papergirl show that they've got what it takes to become serious leaders in the heavy metal "genus" while Charlotte which could be classed as a heavy metal ballad shows their skill as proficient musicians and their adaptable nature. Okay they may still be in High School but if I were up against Kittie I would not be underestimating them. However if I had to describe Spit in one sentence then I guess I would have to describe Spit as "A blistering heavy metal album that understands and expresses the angst of today's society"

This album contains some of the most brutal tracks of this year, at first the concern that it would be teenage angst trip, or a Hole wannabe made me scepticle but after one listen the nature of this album is clear. The opening track spit is the most powerful on the album by a long way and although rest of the tracks don't quite live up to the outstanding start, tending to tale off into ballads, and instrumentals it is still currently the best release of this year, and probably will remain so. Make sure that you see them on tour with Slipknot this year devastation assured.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 22 Jun 2003
By Cate
Format:Audio CD
I'm not normally a fan of heavy meatal as I find a lot of it lacks melody. I have to admit that I love this album though. A metal album with a variety of tempos! My favourite songs are the lyrically disturbing Paperdoll and the fast and furious Brackish. Even if you wouldn't really consider yourself a metal fan I think this album is still worth checking out-you could be pleasantly surprised!

3.0 out of 5 stars When I Argue I See Shapes 23 Mar 2001
Format:Audio CD
Well, this album can be judged by 'Charlotte', by whether you like the soft gorgeous parts, or the really rock sounds in it. If you're buying this album simply for the stunning guitar solo, during 'Charlotte', then personally i wouldn't bother...that is one of the best songs on Spit, and there are no other stunning guitar features. But if you like the whole screaming thing, then go for it, it's full of it!

It's like a female KoRn i'd say. The way Morgan can be sassy and innocent at one point, then this demon of hate the next is classic. 'Charlotte' is a piece of musical genious. Read more
